check in T-mobiles terms (Standard speeds approx. 128 Kbps.) & check google fi terms Google fi terms (Note: data speeds are limited to 256kbps (3G).)
In my opinion it means that they are not going to be 4G (basically they don't want to promise and then get calls why is there no speed) but I can be wrong time will tell.

Are you going to switch?
Waiting for it to work on OnePlus and yes, will switch in a heartbeat. I don't think I will save much compared to my $46 monthly bill for Straight Talk (AT&T) but the ability to jump from S to TMO to Wifi would provide more coverage and better quality and the killer feature for me is data in 120 countries.

In Lakewood, both have terrible service, so that wouldn't help me.

A few brief observations:
1) I do not like the fact that you cannot have GV and Fi.  They make you choose one or the other.
2) I was aware of the lousy service here in Lakewood for T-Mobile and Sprint, but I was counting on Fi's advertised usage of public hotspots.  I assumed they had contracts with the major providers (Comcast, etc), but I have yet to been connected to even one public WiFi.  If this continues, IMO in Lakewood the service is barely useable.
3) Support is adequate.  I had a question during activation.  The two options were email and a call back.  I selected call back, and received a call within an hour.  The person who I spoke with was American, friendly, and moderately knowledgeable.  After I activated, I had another question.  This one was not so urgent, so I selected email.  But I did see there was a chat option as well.

Seems like there's no credit check for Project Fi.
Am I crazy to buy a Nexus 6 and activate Project Fi for just the dates when I travel abroad for the cheap 3G data?

Have an upcoming 9 day trip, so it seems tempting, especially as VZW won't let me have TravelPass with my unlimited data plan.

I have had it for awhile, but unless something has changed, I can confirm no credit check.

ETA - I have the 5x and the 6.  The 6 is a monster.  If you do want the larger one, get a 6P, though.

Big diff in price for a phone he won't be using too often.

Though the 6p is quite nice.  I'd even get the 5x over the 6. But not as a second device.

It's just for trips, so I'd just get the cheapest phone there is. Seems like that's the 6.

Any reports online of just using Google Fi for trips abroad?

I know tmobile doesn't officially allow majority of usage to be abroad but they don't enforce it.

Wouldn't that require a hard pull every time you activate service?
