How does one get upgraded on a ua or aa flight from economy to Buissness?
I tried negotiating with gate agent but they kept saying I need to cancel my current booking and re-book a Buissness seat, there’s no “upgrading” options
I’m just trying to figure out what’s the whole deal with the people always waiting on the uPgrade list?
Status makes you upgrade eligible, there often is a upgrade option when you check in, of course you'd have to pay.

How do I know/search for refundable flights on Amex Travel? I don't see any options for it.
You cant book them online, call platinum travel
Is there any way to select any seat, including window seats on a AA reservation? I tried entering the confirmation code into a few partner airlines. So far, no go. I used this trick in the past with Air Berlin and Qatar. Was wondering if this works with AA, and if so, which partners?
not without OW stauts

on UA there are a few ways to pay for an upgrade
International
1.online using miles +cash I believe it's 35k plus $600
2.using a GPU(global premier upgrade), only works if there is R space on the flight otherwise it goes in to wait-list, once you're on the wait list it's priorities by status of traveler
Must be booked in W class or higher to use a gpu

Domestic
1. Points + cash
2. Using an RPU( regional premier upgrade) if there is pn or R space, fare class of ticket doesn't matter when using and RPU.
3.CPU (complementary premier upgrade)which is given to status members and united card holders when there are extra seats available.

Often times the gate agent may offer to upgrade for just a few hundred dollars if there are seats available.
(I've had EWR-TLV $500)

PS, I sell GPUs/RPUs
Feel free to pm.

award flight can only be upgraded using a GPU from a GS member and even then I believe they have to be "ticketed" on the same flight

If you have a ticket number It should be fine, but if you don't want to be worried you have to call Porter. (Vayama can be problematic...)

Next time book with Expedia or Priceline even if its $8 more. (they'll never send you the wrong confirmation code).

Trying to do the miles + cash however there’s only “waitlist” available
Is it possible to get it confirmed now? Or I have to wait?
(There’s no R class available)

wait-list means that you can't confirm it now.
Fyi GPUs are a much cheaper option.

Consequences for wrong birth year on airline ticket?  I followed Dan's practice and entered a different birth year for my 1-year-old, showing him as 4 (he has his own seat, not flying as lap child).  Will this cause any problems checking in, at the airport, and especially for TSA Pre-Check?  Should I call the airline to correct the wrong DOB?

Also, I can't find the original post where Dan wrote about this - can someone please provide a link?

Much thanks.

◦Sometimes websites won’t allow infants or kids to book a ticket. The date of birth on a ticket isn’t actually matched up with anything, so I’ve been known to add 100 years to the age of my kids when I need to and I’ve never run into any issues.

How do I find out what YQ will be charged on a LOT flight reserved by SQ miles? Is it the same a UA would be?
