Application Process & Warning
The application process isn’t online and can be a bit tricky, either go into a branch or do the following:
Download application form from here
Fill out form and send it to Michael Thomas – Senior Relationship Banker at Michael.Thomas@cnb.com
It’s also my understanding that City National will only process applications from states they have branches in, but in the past some below have been able to get around this by e-mailing/faxing their application (NY, DE, GA, TN, NV & CA).
City National also has a fixed focus on relationship banking with high networth individuals, if you don’t earn a lot of money/aren’t in a profession that is expected to have a high salary after a few years (e.g Doctors/Lawyers) then chances are you won’t be approved.
They will most likely require the following to determine if you fall into one of these groups:
W2 or 1099
Previous three months bank statements
Card Benefits & Points Value
Unlimited Priority Pass Select lounge access for two and their guests (e.g one primary and one authorized user card + guests)
$250 airline credit for eligible incidental charges per card per calendar year (including authorized users, but be warned they might send out a 1099-INT for this).
$100 Global Entry Credit
Free CLEAR membership as long as you’re a cardholder in good standing

City National Rewards Points can be redeemed for airfare with most carriers, you can use their airfare search tool to see how many points you need for a flight. It also seems like you can use them to book hotels and cruises. From my testing it seems like you’re normally get around 1¢ per point in value. There are also no blackout dates.
Our Verdict
Obviously this is a great offer, ~$1,000 in sign up bonus value, great lounge access and airline incidentals for more than one person. That being said, I’m not going to apply for this card straight away. I think City National is going to be absolutely flooded with applications from people that don’t meet their target criteria and will end up approving very few if any applicants. On the flipside, they might still run their credit and I’d rather let the storm settle first before throwing my hat in the ring.
Maybe I’m just being too cautious though and missing out on a great deal. If you’re seriously considering this deal, I’d urge you to read our review on this card first.
