I'm very unimpressed with the new shalshles CD. Any thoughts?

Was thinking about it
It should not really be רבי יהושע אומר rather הרבי אומר
Or at the least אמר רבי יהושע אומר הרבי

Reb Yehoshua Omer – I’m sure this wasn’t easy to do - mixing spoken word audio into an up-tempo song – but it ends up as a fantastic tribute to Rabbi Gordon. Even though I’m not quite sure if or how the “Hu Avinu” lyrics match the chorus and bridge – it’s still a great tune, and masterfully put together. The song is called “Reb Yehoshua Omer” even though the quote is Rabbi Gordon quoting the Rebbe. I’ll leave it for others to say something deep about shlucho shel odom kemoso, or Torah nikreis al shmo :-P

Anyone have a good Amazon playlist (or others) of pop/dance music with songs from Mordechai Shapiro, Benny Friedman, etc?

Open letter to any composer and producer of music on the forums:

I think there is a certain niche in music that hasn't been touched by the Jewish industry that has potential. I don't think there is a name to this genre of music it's just called "epic music".  It's basically just music without any people singing. But it's not comparable at all to classical music. The emotions that can be evoked through this type of music is much more intense. I personally enjoy this type of music very very much and would love to see Jewish composers trying to make such music.

If you search on YouTube for "epic music" you can find plenty of examples made by goyim. But alot of them have choirs of men and women singing in them. And a lot of them have not tzniusdik thumbnails. So I'll try to find links that are suitable in that respect and post them here for you to understand how this music is different than anything else.

There is a reason that I think that this type of music might not be appropriate for frum people.

Let me start by saying that this type of music can be separated into two types. One is emotional/sad/uplifting type, and one is epic/heroic type. So the epic/heroic type can bring about a feeling of "kochi ve'otzem yodi asa li es hachayil hazeh". But I still think that if you have the proper mindset when listening to such music, it shouldn't be a problem.

This type of music isn't expensive to produce as far as I know. One person can do it all on FL Studio, it just takes time. So why isn't there a single CD with such music?

Because one buyer isn’t enough to make an entire production

But you're also going to want to buy it once you hear it :)

On a serious note, that's what I was addressing at the end. One person is all it takes. They can do it as a side project.

Nope, I have no idea. I still can't imagine that it would cost a lot of money for a studio to do something like that. The only real expense that I can think of is making the physical CDs and having stores agree to sell it. Other then that, I would imagine that a producer already has access to something like fl studio or an equivalent with all plugins needed. And those physical MIDI keyboard thingys, which I don't think is absolutely necessary. And has a computer that can handle running the software.

Where am I making a mistake?

And if there are thousands upon thousands of video on YouTube with that type of music, I'm assuming it can't cost that much.

It's something that I do want to do. Right now I can't do it for a couple of reasons. First, I have very little knowledge on how to use FL studio. Second, I don't own a paid version of it and it costs money to buy the software and the necessary plugins to make it, which I can't afford at the moment. Third, my computer is a barebones computer which I don't think can handle the software very well and I can't afford to get another one.

All those reasons don't apply to a producer, since they most probably already have all that.

It's not just software, you need to know how to compose music, come up with an idea for a song, etc etc

Ivan Torrent - Moonriser [Epic Music - Epic Electronic Orchestral]
has some background vocals I can't tell if it's a lady or man
https://youtu.be/tkOb6yGlNno

Two Steps From H*ll - Victory (No Choir)
https://youtu.be/1SxGc83PPC8

Trevor DeMaere - The Limitless [Epic Music - Beautiful Emotional Orchestral]
https://youtu.be/4ljqp0Aczz4

Trevor DeMaere & David Chappell - Fading Giants [Epic Music - Powerful Beautiful Orchestral]
theres a certain part that I can't tell if it's an instrument or a person humming
https://youtu.be/aWMlURnQLwA

Audiomachine - Wars Of Faith
until the 1:50 mark there's no vocals afterwards there is a choir (which I think messed up the whole song)
https://youtu.be/3GjNX7jcLK0

David Chappell - Who WIll Save Us Now (Epic Powerful Ethereal Cinematic Drama
https://youtu.be/HaldKO4xWb0

Those are some examples. Although I feel like I only stuck to the more emotional type because those are easier to find without vocals. You might not like those but I can guarantee there are some that you would like. You just have to explore.

And you have to listen to the music with headphones on in a quiet room in order to fully experience it.

It can just as easily bring out how uplifting a mitzva is.

A very large portion of this genre is written for movie/TV/game scores and trailer music making the genre very profitable for those who are able to sell into that market. While the actual music may not be costly to produce (maybe) the creativity is somewhat specialty.
