so now i realized it hasent really done any uploading/downloading in about a month. and i cant figure out how to make it work. i tried remounting, wont work. i'm stumped ???

I wonder f your kinda setup violates the gDocs T&Cs... Before they allowed uploading of any file, there was a hack called gDrive that mounted your gmail storage as a drive, but it was a blatant violation of gMail T&Cs and every day you were risking getting shut down by Google and losing your data.

Kindly elaborate: Did stuff disappear? Were you able to recover it? How long ago was this?

Not too long ago. First I had some stuff disappear and reappear, then I got locked out. Too much hassle for me...

For very plain excel and other docs you are ok with google docs. As soon as it gets a little more complicated then that, it will lose its functionality, as I experienced first hand...

I had an excel that I configured to calculate by inputting bookmakers odds, how to always make a profit.

It was a beautiful piece of work, and now its worthless, both the calculations as well as layout are gone...

are u saying you have a formula that i could make money in a foolproof way?

by the way, it doesnt stop at backing up your computer. what about your online storage? have u seen the horror stories online about people who've lost stuff. i've been trying to figure out the best way to backup my entire google account, i have pretty much gotten enough down:

1. http://www.dataliberation.org/
i believe its a google created site, it will guide u through a lot of stuff

2. have all your email forwarded to a google apps account.
that way u have a backup already, plus google has a little program to export and import mail between google apps accounts. its called google email uploader, you should be able to find it

3. i know gladinet has an option to transfer from cloud to cloud, never used it yet

4. share all your docs with another account and make a copy (with one click)

5. can this be done nicely for gmail through outlook?

If you want to backup your online accounts I would use Backupify It backs up Google, Twitter Facebook and many others.

In the process of switching over from Mozait and switchy.

I found this program called CrashPlan. Aside from the fact they have unlimited backup plans for under $50 a year, the program has a free feature that allows you to backup onto a "friend's" computer. So basically 2 ppl can arrange to swap backup space, and it's all free. It sounds like the data is encrypted on the "friend's" computer, but I haven't tested it out yet. Still in middle of the inagural 250+GB upload (this is where FIOS comes in handy. I'm hitting about 10Mbps)

Dunno, regular. It's been doing 3-10 Mbps most of the time, but this morning it was sustaining 80-90 for a while until I started using the system

Is it possible that when you started it this morning it checked the files that were already backed up so it was as if it copied them making the average speed way off? Happens to me sometimes when copying locally.

Yea, I'd bet you're throughput did not actually jump 1000%-2600% =)

Also, those programs can be notably unreliable. Try using speedtest.net.

I didn't start it this morning, it was running through the night. The speed updates about twice per second, and it was sustaining that speed for more than a minute.

The only thing I can think of was that it was a very compressable file, and that it was using the precompression numbers

Or it pulled some cool dropbox trickery and didn't bother uploading files that were already uploaded by a different user... :)
