WestJet Air

Anyone have experience flying WestJet? Doesn't seem like miles can be accrued any place else, but bright side seems that 1 bag is free at least LAX-YVR...

I flew them last year a few times when they had ACY-YYZ which was discontinued. As for WestJet, think of them as the Canadian version of JetBlue.

I have flown westjet many timee to Calgary .  It is exactly like flying jetblue only difference is green leather seats instead of blue and not quite as tacky and corny as JB as recently become.

Surprisingly they have followed in Spirits    footsteps and are charging anywhere from $15-$30 a seat when booking the flight. However, within 24 hours of the flight you can choose your seat for free. Also they are starting to offer to rent iPads with movies for $10/flight...very interesting

First time I heard of Westjet Simplicity today, available on select business oriented flights. Automatic $25 if the flight has a delay of 30 minutes, is a generous policy - https://www.westjet.com/guest/en/business-travel/simplicity.shtml .

For flights between Toronto and New York, seems WS has free same day change / standby to earlier / later flight.

Quote
Early and missed flight re-accommodation is defined as same-day flight changes for the same origin and destination on the same day of travel. Re-accommodation to an earlier or later flight must be requested at the time of check-in (or at the airport within 2 hours of a missed flight) and is subject to availability. Any difference in fare will not be charged or refunded.

Is this on standby basis or confirmed if space available on different flight? Have a 9:35am flight and the next flight is at 2:35pm. Would WS be able to make the change over the phone on day of departure confirmed, or does passenger have to wait in airport till the next flight and subject to availability at boarding? Thanks.

What's the point of you'd have to wait in the airport anyway?

There wouldn't be a point if you are intentionally trying to change to later flight. It would work if you missed your flight and next flight is couple hours later.

They don't do it over the phone. They also deny that the policy exists. Sometimes it will appear when you check in, asking if you want a different flight
