Don't bother with NY> MIA, head out west instead. e.g. South Dakota, Wyoming etc. depending on how much time (and money) you have the possibilities are endless...
there'll be more driving buy that trip will be 100x better
thanks for the tip but I've done that already. It's not really an option. I drove cross country before. This is the route this year.

gotcha.

Off the top of my head:

You should have plenty of free/low cost options in Washington DC, e.g. Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Holocaust Museum etc.

Mammoth caves in KY is a little out of your way buy should be a solid option. If you do that there's also the Louisville Slugger factory/museum, I don't think it's expensive but I can't remember for certain.

Of course there's the Coca Cola factory in ATL, not sure if that's low cost enough for you...

Great Smokey Mountains National Park

not goin thru DC. Going thru KY on Way up to Detroit I'll check out the caves and slugger museum. ATL I'm sure i can get AAA discounts for the Coca cola place.

After ATL I'm doing in Gatlinburg TN  . I've been there before i absolutely love the place. Soooo enchanting. Possibly 2 nights there. Besides the strip in the tourist part anything else? I haven't started to look. I'm taking care of the first week now.

My first week is as follows: the city names are where we will be doing for the night at cheap motels. Activities don't have to be there but should be on the way from departing city.

I believe there are many free/cheap NASCAR related activites in Charlotte. (e.g. Hendrick Motorsports)

You'll probably have better better camping options out on the keys than in/around MIA.

Was just in Louisville slugger factory, I really enjoyed the tour and its pretty cool. Cost is $12 and comes with the free mini bat (I asked the guy for 2 abd he said no problem) it's a really good price.

Smokey Mountain National Park was nice, we drove to Clingmans tower. Was nice but only takes about 2 hours, unless your a hicker. We just drove there and then took a 20 min uphill paved walk to the top of the tower.

Gatlinburg - Pigeon Forge are was amazing. We didn't even do any of the many many attractions there, just walked around and enjoyed the country music bands playing in random places.
There is a new night show called Sablè, was amazing. We got in for free because it was a trial run. They need done perfecting but the idea of the show was great.

Maybe some of these past posts that have nothing to do with NY-MIA should be moved to another thread....

Most of it, (I.e. everything besides the Louisville stuff) is relevant to NY-MIA IMO.

I disagree. If you would spread them out they would be spread out across many threads. the topic is the route from New York to Miami that is what I am taking  and that is what I'm here for.

a few years ago of my family rented a chalet in Pigeon Forge and spent days in . Gatlinburg. it's great for family and Tourists but I'm running a camp with high school kids... yes one day can be spent walking around the tourist strip and a hike.

isn't Rock City a bar? Civil War reenactments probably won't do it for ten  high school kids on a camp road trip...
