How did I miss this TR? It's great! Thanks for writing it up.

Loved the DDMS/DDF map of the world. Actually LOL.

Wondering what people do about drinking and driving after Tierra Sur. From Google maps, it doesn't look like there's a hotel within 2 miles.

In a DDMS/DDF universe, the map would look like this. Chicago has 2 buildings- Shallots and Milts. Hawaii is roughly the size of Asia. Buses have gone the way of the dodo. And- Oxnard/Tierra Sur is a state and it houses the small city of Los Angeles La Gondola/SLS hotel.
Best part of the TR.
It seems like you were underwhelmed by LA - nice to know that I'm not alone

There is a dinky four points not too far.  My wife didn't want to stay there,  so I made her drive back

Part Three:

The service was excellent there. Of course we ordered avocado eggrolls (the waiter said it’s one of the most popular menu items), but I was kinda surprised that I didn’t really like them and neither did my wife.

We were also underwhelmed by the avacado egg rolls. They are good,  but not nearly as good as Dan makes them out to be

Nah I really had a great time, just the cynic inside me comes out when I write...
My wife told me she thinks the TR is too negative  :)

It's nice to hear those perspectives of places that get too much hype. The more excited people are about seeing or eating somewhere the more let down they can be. I'm not suggesting that people not write TR's if they had a fantastic experience, but a few more subdued TR's gives a more realistic perspective as to what to expect.

We stayed relatively close, but not walkable.

Nice TR!
When it comes down to it, which place have you been to that has overwhelmed you or lived up to your expectations? Even NYC isn't too interning for visitors after spending 2 days in Manhattan.

I am just going to comment once on this as to not clutter this thread with opinions, but IMO opinion LA was not what I expected and was a huge let down. The trip there was great and I had an awesome time, I was just not so impressed.

The few places that I have been to that far exceeded expectations were, Hawaii (which had a lot to do with my disappointment with LA beaches), Atlantis, Rio, Iguassu Falls, Sedona/Grand Canyon.
