Israeli Rental Overcharging
« on: August 28, 2015, 10:14:28 AM »
Second time this has happened so wanted to warn others

Booked rental with Hertz through travel agent, gave me a price including liability, no Shabbos etc

After I return the car, Hertz charges me the liability separate (more than $100 difference). Last time I caught it when I saw the printout bill from Hertz. But now they have a fancy paperless system, everything goes directly to your email, you dont get a paper contract or bill at the end.

Contacted the TA  but is taking  a long time. I may dispute the charge, but prefer not to unless I need to.

Chase cards. Can dispute using booking conf as proof but will still be a hassle.

Not sure the TA is at fault, he just makes you a result in Hertz's system. Maybe did he create you a result without ins cuz you were going to use a Chase card, and you didn't have the letter of coverage, so Hertz charged you for INS

I dont blame the TA. Hertz asked for and received the coverage letter, so they only charged TPI, which was supposed to be included.

Do you have the confirmation/reservation from you TA? Is anything about TPI mentioned there?

Just as a data point when I was in Israel my agent used to tell me to always rent from Avis even though he dealt with both. He said hertz in Israel is impossible to deal with and lots of times they even "find" scratches on the car that you are responsible for

My experience is different. Avis gives me old cars and hertz new. I had a scratch on my new car and they ignored.

If you book your rental through the Hertz website, it doesn't include Liability. Even though the US 800 number rep will tell you that it's included.

You must call Israel and ask the location If its included.

And I got a car from budget with 14k km, car didn't make it to the airport from Yerushalayim. It's more important to know how well they maintain their cars than the km.

IME disputing rental cars in Israel isn't a hassle at all.

To sum it up, all the rental companies in Israel are grade D. It simply depends on your luck.
