Not only second year law students. Even I know the concepts without having attended any law school at all. Yet I would not have been able to refer to them by their Latin name. Was he ignorant of the concept of litigating what evidence is admissible before trial or was he only ignorant of the Latin name for it?

There's no "true nature". It is whatever they engineer it to be, whether progressive, regressive, or somewhere in the middle. You're making it sound like there's a default to this discussion.

Whatever. I am not going to argue the semantics. Either way, since it would be ridiculous to expect the Rs to engineer a progressive tax cut it will need to be weighed towards those who pay more.

I don't believe that the working class R base that put Trump in the oval office actually wants that (ETA: 'that' being more cuts for the top that could've theortically gone to the middle). Doesn't mean they won't support it at the end of the day - that's just the over-politicized world we live in.

I don't think they expect a bill which would make the tax code more progressive. Many of the working class which voted for him are not union workers and the differences for business owners such as electricians and plumbers can be very significant to them. These business owners are very practical and can easily understand that someone paying more taxes than them is likely to get a bigger tax cut than them.
