It should come preset with a pin. In the package there is usually a paper inserted with the pin number.

Slightly OT. This is the third time I've purchased a MasterCard from staples, that had fraudulent charges within a few hours of activation. All three purchases where from different stores. I've never had this with visa gift cards... Has anyone had a similar experience with MasterCard in particular?

Yeah- I realized that but it was too late to modify. But it took over 3 days for someone to comment about it.
