Aeroflot no longer allowing 2 free checked bags
« on: October 13, 2015, 06:48:18 PM »
Effective immediately, for departures on or after November 1, Aeroflot is slashing their free baggage allowance from 2 bags to 1. This leaves Turkish, Ukrainian, and Azerbaijan Airlines as the only carriers still allowing 2 free bags when flying NYC-TLV.

See, this is what happens when Transaero goes broke...  :'(

Surprised to see Ukrainian on that list, probably they will cut it soon too.

Even for tickets purchased beforehand?
Sounds like a DoT violation.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

As I said
No more compitation to Aeroflot. Think it'll let them raise their prices?
So I was half right
I'm not who you think I am.

Sorry I wasn't clear... by "immediately", I mean for tickets issued from now on (with a ticketing date of October 12 onward).

For the record, I can't seem to find any mention of this on Aeroflot's public website (I heard about this via travel agent channels), but I tested it out in Sabre: one-way originating in TLV, one-way originating in JFK, round-trip originating in TLV, and round-trip originating in JFK are all pricing with "BAG ALLOWANCE.......01P" in the price quote when the departure date of the first segment is November 1 or later.

Party's over, boys and girls. :(

Well for those of us travelling from LAX the only one is Turkish as the other 2 airlines don't fly to LAX. Oh well.

My prediction is (in this order): Ukrainian will be next, and then Turkish. We can only hope that I'm wrong - this is one of the few times I'd love to be. 🙈

If you mean "my ticket said '2x50 bags included' already in advance", then I'm surprised. But if you mean "I brought two 50 pound bags with me to the airport, and they didn't say anything", then that means absolutely nothing - first of all, most airlines are not m'dakdek k'chutas sa'areh; second of all, many check-in agents are so used to 50 lbs. from other airlines, that they don't even bother checking the fine print where it says 44. (Or they assume it's inaccurate, or simply don't care.)

Actually, I would guess that the number you see is kilograms, and it's stating that you get a total of 40 kg (20 kg = 44 lbs).
