NYC to Dallas is available for $40.20 each way on American Airlines. Dallas to LA is available for the same price. You can put together a round trip itinerary NY-LA for $161, with a stop in DFW. (Ex: LGA-DFW 12/8, DFW-LAX 12/8, LAX-DFW 12/15, DFW-LGA 12/16. $160.80 total, 5232 miles.)

LGA-DFW still $41, lots of DFW-LAX for $36. That's $76 each way NYC to lax, with a nice centurion lounge stop.

There's $99 each way on virgin and b6. Depends on your dates. Spirit also has cheap fares if you don't mind flying into orange county.

Miami to cle (with a stop in EWR, for ny-ers) on UA for $56. Cle to Miami (with a stop in ord or EWR) for $56 on ua. $111CLE-MIA return, with a stopover each way. A bunch of $49 fares from MIA to CLE available in November nonstop on AA, and one or two CLE-MIA at that fare. Also plenty of ord-mia and back at $57 each way nonstop on american. Also Miami to Denver $64 nonstop each way (mia-den aa, den-mia ua).

I found a $40 AA but can't find anything on frontier (can't find any working dates between NYC-ord at all even)

I am ex-ord and looking for travel 12/5 and 12/9.

The fare is probably gone. Grab aa for $40 if you found it, or at least hold it.

$39-$49 each way cle-mia, $39-$49 each way phl-mia, $49 ord-mia, $59 bos-mia. Nyc-mia is $69, as reported, with a couple of $49 dates still available if you can grab them.DTW-MIA has a couple for $36 each way ($71 return), otherwise plenty at $49 each way. BWI-MIA $39-$49. DFW-mia $35-$45, that probably being the cheapest option to lax, with DFW-lax being $54 each way. That's a $177 return mia-lax and vice versa. Compare that to minimum $104 each way otherwise. VS has a bunch of $121-$132 dates between NYC-lax, good $242+ return.

SNA is 8 minutes from my house, and I'd rather drive 40 minutes further to LAX to avoid Spirit.

NYC-SJU from $108 each way on american, jetblue, delta, and united. Dates in November and December.

NYC-TLV $358 O/W on Areoflot, plenty of dates. Just combine that with a Norwegian sub $300 return flight, and that's a pretty cheap R/T without taking Ukrainian, which summer people want to avoid. Norwegian O/W TLV-NYC available for $245 and up.
