Programs and Platforms That Stalk on Users
« on: October 28, 2015, 06:36:36 PM »
According to avromie7 (and downthread) Microsoft's (Windows 8 and up) flawed privacy policy allows them to stalk and track user information. The question is how that is in comparison to other companies and if there's anything to be done about that (by any company).

I started this thread because I haven't seen a dedicated thread for this topic. (Mods, feel free to delete)

What is this thread for? Listing all the smartphone apps available on the market?

1) are they tracking me?
2) should I care?
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Spotify gave themselves the right to your Facebook login
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Obviously, if you know him and talk about him and he's worthwhile being mentioned than he must be an exception.

It's bs bc when these ppl started off there was no Internet. And by the time it was impossible to run a business without it, they were already paying ppl to have the Internet for them.

The grandson of a very big hair told me, my grandfather has a special fax machine that prints out all his incoming emails so that he doesn't have to have Internet. But his sons and secretaries all do have Internet so....

So is that an opportunity for his phone service provider to also be able to stalk on his emails?

Does it also print out Promotions and Updates? In colored ink?

Never mind - chances are he's not using gmail :)

In case you were under the illusion that Google "doesn't really stalk", I just opened a website funded by google ads and found nearly every single item I have viewed on various sites in the last 2-3 days.

Q: Do you consider this
  • Scary
  • Annoying
  • Nerve wracking
  • All of the above and more...

Where's the choice for none of the above?

Google is a business. They use data to make money. Sometimes they use it to find new ways to make your life better or easier. None of that should bother or concern you at all.

You may be right for scary. But it definitely is annoying... I mean, let me live my life without intrusions, no?

How is it intrusive? There would always be ads, they just use data to pick which ads. Better to reserve your ire for pop-ups, which actually are intrusive.
