I know this discussion was probably not supposed to get all that serious, and that no one in this discussion was suggesting it, but if anyone is contemplating keeping the numbers down due to financial pressures:

i think we should just forget about this whole chinuch system. at least the chabad yehsivos are all a waste of time and money. its not really helping, if i could do it again i would sit in 770 for all my years of zal and mesivta. not that i didnt gain and have fun, and not that i want to debate chinuch now, but theres nothing proper about this.

No doubt there is a colossal waste of time and money for the majority of guys...but what's the solution?

I would never send my teenager to France to learn to save a few bucks.  I didn't even feel safe in France.

throughout our history, the arabs were actually quite hospitable hosts to the jews. read up on morocco, and now that im on my way to ist, ive read up on the jewish history there, and its the same idea. the problems started with zionism.

point is its half of the reported which most probably means half of the unreported as well. not necessarily, but most probably. my minhag is to wear a cap on trips regardless of if i was spit on.

Perhaps, but in all of my travels around the world I've never felt more uncomfortable in a yarmulah than in Paris.  It's just not a place I would send my son to, even if tuition is less outrageous than it is back in the US.

I know nothing about the Litvish yeshiva system, but the Chabad system as is stands (where they brainwash everyone that shlichus is the goal for everyone even though they know good and well that there is no more shlichus space unless you marry the right person or are willing to be someone's b#%^) is simply not sustainable.
I hope something changes in the next decade before I need to start worrying about it...

when i was in lisbon portugal i was surprised there was no chabad. there must be other places as well

Interesting that you pointed this out.  I think they are in the process of sending a couple there now or just recently. I read about it in the Lubavitch International a few months ago.

They're sending couples to Kenya and Nigeria now too... I can only imagine what kind of 'paradise' these Shluchim will have there.
