Been Meaning to right this for a while, so here goes…

Getting in
Frontier CLE-LAS
Stratosphere Hotel ~$30 Hotwire deals

Honestly flight was not all that bad. I had voucher from earlier cancelled flight so it was free. It was actually the lady next to me first flight ever, so I apologized to her that her first flight is on this cr@p. Her husband got very upset and me, and said “Man, think positive!” #Mussarhaskel
We arrived late and went to pick up car from Hertz (virtually our only big expense) IIRC it was less than $200 for 5 days.
Stratosphere hotel was what you’d expect, really basically just crashed there. I did VEGAS already and honestly not my thang.

Day 1

Woke up, ate breakfast and started our drive. First up was Death Valley. Peshuto Kemashmuo, it is a desert, but quite an impressive one at that. We stopped for some scenic lookouts and it was Hot as Hell. Officially, its $20 pp but there is no one enforcing if you drive straight through.

From there it was on to Yosemite. Much more green, with mountains and water. Yosemite cost ~$50 and there is toll gate. One thing I would have liked to have done is left earlier, as the scenic roads that are gorgeous during the day are just nauseous at night. And unfortunately, much of Yosemite was in the dark. Ideally, I’d camp in Yosemite and spend a couple days there, but this trip was to have a lil of everything and we did not have time for that. The stars (which cannot be captured on s5) are amazing though.

We finally arrived in the Candlewood Suites Turlock, which was a pointbreaks hotel, so 5k IHG

Day 2 – San Fran

Old screenshot I saved is wrong. We started in Turlock. But whatever.

Once again, we woke up at our leisurely time, and made preparations for the day. Firstly, we needed Hotel for the night, so we booked CP in San Jose. We prepared some stuff for rest of trip, but ill leave that surprise for later. And with that we headed toward SF. The drive in continued to be quite scenic.

Our first dest was the Lands End Hike. This is a fun short hike that offers great views of the Golden Gate Bridge.

From there, we headed did the actual Golden Gate Bridge.

I think this video illustrates the illusion of the bridge moving…

Then we chilled in city a bit.

From there we went to Chabad for Mincha (Alas, there was none!), and headed to our hotel for what would be our only early night…But alas it was not to be. “POP!” As we are passing SFO, our tire blows. My dad reassures me changing a tire is easy-shmeasy, I will assure it is not. Especially when your car is pulled over on the side of the highway at a 30-degree angle (1st mistake). Anyway, after much effort, (2nd mistake) we are forced to give up. (Actually my companion gave up a while ago..) By a very mean and demeaning officer. Who almost gave us breathalyzer tests. (Hey, seriously, just because I can’t change a tire doesn’t mean I’m drunk.) So the tow truck guy shows up and swaps it 30 seconds, and charges us $130. I am assured that Chase (IP) will cover. I have yet to see the money, just lots of requests for documents that don’t exist. Anyway from there, we drive to SFO for a swap, and onwards to hotel, where we show up late, gross, and greasy. Shower. Crash. Zzzz

We did not hang around much. Unfortunatly, my companion was of the lets get to dest (which was some lousy hotel) and not the hang around type. To be fair, he did most of the driving which that day was like 9 hours. Anyway, star-gazing was not his thing.

Either way, ALL the campsites were full, you have to reserve a spot in advance. Even so, yosemite is huge and you can find a quiet beautiful spot nearby.

Why didn't you just fly into SFO?
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

And miss Death Valley and Yosemite???
We were basically driving the whole time, but the drives were awesome and thoroughly enjoyable.
We got to see a little bit of everything.
We did make short pit stops to chill/strecth/move/snap every now and then.

Day 3 – PCH

Again getting later start then we should of we set out for our drive down the PCH. Absolutely incredible!! I highly recommend this drive and you MUST do it south (outside lane). I could not stop snapping all day. As you see on map to shave a little bit of time we did the last part off the coast. Unfortunately, that time coincided with sunset. Oh well, just a reason to do it again.

Anyway, first we went to Monterrey. Some pish-posh place. It was nice and fancy-shmancy. Extra points to anyone who can name the two supercars in the photo below. (I had to whatsapp car-geek friend).

Okay, PCH picture madness time!

PROFILE PIC!

Some guy lives there!

Too much you say?
Well choosing was a b!*@#, and they all be $$ $hots

Day 4 – Winery and back!

We woke up, had what we could from hotel breakfast, printed boarding passes and chilled till Lunch. Then to the epicenter of the DDF universe, Tierra Sur!! Totally worth the hype. Incredible food. And to prove its importance to the DDF world, we had an unofficial DO with none other than Chuck!

Yum, wine!

Every good DDFer takes a picture of his food.

THE END

All this in 4 days!
