LA Trip Planning Help
« on: December 15, 2015, 04:55:42 PM »
I'm looking to go on my first (semi) real honeymoon since getting married ~7 years ago (not counting the $400 price mistake to Israel from 3 years ago, my wife was 7 months pregnant, so it doesn't really count). DW wants to go to LA for a few days, I don't currently have much in the way of rewards/points (see below), so I want to know what's the best way for me to get the most out of them.

I'm open for any suggestions regarding flights, rentals and hotels. I haven't made any plans and don't know where to start

I currently have:
  • 69,046 SPG
  • 191,288 UR (combined from a few accounts)

Thanks in advance

P.S. I can open up new cards in order to get more points, but I'm not sure which cards are best for me at this moment

Find flights on UA or AA (using BA) with UR. Then transfer to Hyatt or use SPG. In respect to things to do, see the LA thread and check the wiki.

If your timing is flexible, just keep an eye on DDMS; he posts good revenue deals on flights occasionally. For hotels, check the SPG website; it's quite intuitive. But call before you book; they have certain upgrades not available on the website.
There are also dedicated threads to help you find revenue or mileage tickets.

Thanks, I'm a bit flustered, but I'll try to put some sort of itinerary together and ask for opinions then.
