Selling a phone bought on upgrade
« on: December 17, 2015, 05:48:23 PM »
Does anyone know if I have to activate an iPhone I bought on an upgrade through Best Buy before selling it?
For a while you had to have it activated on your account before selling. Is it still like that?
This is for Sprint btw.

yes they will make you activate it, every store will.
I will not respond to PM about the UPS method.

I will not respond to PM about the BBLD method.

I didn't mean the store.  I already picked up the phone and they didn't make me activate it. I meant the carrier.

once you have the phone I don't think that your carrier will make you activate. The only time your carrier will make you activate is if you upgrade thru them.

I once sold my upgrade.  If you order the phone by mail, it comes sealed and you don't need to activate it.  If you buy at Best Buy, they activate it for you. ($36)
You can sell it as a closed box new phone.  Sprint phone plan.

Mine was sprint. Edited my prior post.
But I had a chat at Best Buy a while ago about selling my upgrade.  The salesman, a Sprint specialist, said he at first was uncomfortable with a customer who was doing that.  But he said his supervisor pointed out that the terms of the upgrade was to keep the plan for 2 years.  If you do that, you fulfill your obligation and Sprint ( or at least this manager) has no interest in which phone you actually are using.

Around here we DROR, so it may not be so.  Although I wouldn't want to be the one charged.  Perhaps HUCA.  "If I get a new phone with an upgrade, can I save it as a backup phone and not activate it now?"

(If you're selling on ebay it may pay to become a 'basic' seller for $20/ month and get at least 1% lower 'final value fee'.  On electronics the fee is 6% instead of 10%, so the $20 fee saves a lot.  )

And does it make sense that ebay is guaranteeing me that it will be sold for 200$ more then I could buy it straight from apple (apple sells new iPhone se 64gb for 499 and ebay says it will sell for 700)

It doesn't matter, take their guarantee! IF you get even 1 bid, you're guranateen the rest in ebay bucks (with a short exp date).

Each reward is one time use, but then you earn again next month. If you buy enough.
