For those with grandfather old family plans, seems like 2-year contract is over for AT&T customers...

There isn't anything stopping then from not renewing contacts?
If so why weren't they able to kill the unlimited plan years ago?

Is Sprint only carrier left with subsidies? Anyone know when they're getting rid of them?

Didn't happen, they still offer contracts.

Wasn't sure what they would do so I used the upgrade on one line and sold the device to cover cost of my next phone. 
Hoping for a 5"-5.2"  HTC One 10  in the next few months.

When I logged in to my account, it says that the monthly plan costs more if you have a subsidized plan with a 2 year contract. How much more?

Can I never activate the phone, thereby avoiding upgrading to the higher monthly rate?

Do you expect even this option to soon end?
