Amex New System To Prevent Gaming Points
« on: January 04, 2016, 10:53:45 AM »
Has anyone ever gone through a review via the "membership rewards assistance team" (or a similar name) where they do a full review of all bonuses you ever got with Amex & the computer spits out all the duplicate bonuses?

Please chime in if yes. Sources tell me there is a new system in place (I can confirm this) and this can happen & be triggered by downgrading cards to green or closing cards right after getting the bonus.

yes, for the past year, I got a 5,000 or 6,000 MR bonus for downgrading a business platinum/gold card to green. Even done this several times and still got bonus.

Why on earth would Amex give someone a bonus for downgrading a card?

Probably part of a retention offer

The question to all is whether anyone else went under such a review before where all bonuses where reviewed for duplicates "gaming"

They review all bonuses on different cards? Or all bonuses on the same card? I.E. Double dipping on the same card.

The system reviews all (double +) bonuses in your history with amex & it spits out to the rep all the info.

I think it just spits out all activity and bonus activity and they can easily sort by product and *tada* see the dupes.

Well not all double bonuses are illegal... Let's say you get a new business card every 12 months, that's fine according to their own terms.

and if all they see is one bonus for each card. Say a new card member  who got the bonus for the plat, mb plat and gold, would they be ok if they closed the platinum right after getting the bonus?

this happened while the account holder was on the phone, they wouldn't downgrade his plat to green until they transferred him to a special review team.

yes gone as in they will close all of your accts. They dont need such "customers" basically.
You can be right with 12 month terms etc.. Bottom line is they mentioned to the acct holder that "we will already see if there is a pattern" "numerous duplicate bonuses"
