Mentioned briefly in another thread, but LY has expanded the use of these 2 aircraft to now include numerous BOS, EWR and JFK flights. The original news story has been removed from the EL AL site, but I obtained the relevant schedules beforehand (attached). The aircraft in question are "wet-leased" from Spanish charter company "Privilege Style" which means the pilots, flight crew and attendants are NOT from EL AL. The 767 used BOS-TLV is a former LOT Polish aircraft that was retired in 2013, the 777-200ER used for the NYC routes is an Asiana plane built in 1995. While EL AL is not known for their updated cabins, both of these aircraft are very outdated and the 767 is confirmed not to have any seatback IFE. Also, there is no Premium Economy seating on either aircraft, not sure what happens to the people that paid for that in advance (this was a relatively recent aircraft swap). Unfortunately, it appears that LY has a significant capacity and route planning issue. For upcoming flights, caveat emptor!
Notes from LY:
- The security check and check-in will be completed at TLV Terminal 3 as is customary for EL AL flights.
- Ground services will be handled by EL AL service personnel.
- Security procedures overseas will be the same as for EL AL flights.
- The inflight crew is Spanish and EL AL personnel will join the flight to assist with service
- Food and beverages service will be the same as the service provided by EL AL.
