TLV airport to Jerusalem transportation
« on: January 19, 2016, 08:35:36 PM »
Anyone know of a good way to get from Tel aviv airport to Jerusalem? Anyone know of taxi service and how much they charge? Maybe there's a train?

Depending on how much luggage you have and how much you want to spend:

Shuttle (Nesher):+972-2-625-7227: ~65 NIS, door to door. They have shuttles once per hour.  You must reserve (expect horrible CS even on Israeli standards). Good idea to reserve to get there an hour earlier than you usually do.

Cab: Try Hadaka 99: +972-2-500-0787. Price ranges ~150+ depending on how many people.  Reserve beforehand and make a price.

Bus: From Central Bus Station, take Egged 947, get off at tzomet EL-AL, then take free connecting bus to the terminals.

Train: Only sensible from Tel Aviv or Modiin.

Bus/Train:  Take Kavim line 110 from Sarei Yisrael / Yirmiyahu/ Golda to Modiin Train station, then take the train to Ben Gurion terminal 3.

You can also wait like five years for Israel Railways to open up the new Jerusalem CBS - Ben Gurion - Tel Aviv route which will get you to the airport in 25 min.

Don't know which thread is the right one to ask this. Would landing in TLV at 4:20 PM this Friday, and needing to get to Har Nof before Shabbos, qualify as, "cutting it too close?"

I won't have luggage. I will be arriving on an IB flight from MAD.

Won't tell you that I haven't done anything of the sort in the past, but if you ask your LOR I would guess the answer would be not to take that flight. The question is if you have an alternative in MAD if there are delays while you can still avoid boarding.

I hope everything works out well for you, I would guess that your best bet would be to take a taxi or pre-arranged car service.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Thanks, that's what I'm thinking, that if it's delayed I can just stay in Madrid, so it shouldn't be a risk, no? And yes I'd probably take a cab.

I wouldn't call it no risk. Many things can happen after you board and before takeoff, and getting off might not be easy to say the least. To an airline a 2 hour delay on the tarmac/runway is not the end of the world. For שמירת שבת it is critical! Even after landing you can experience serious delays, though I would assume in TLV that's less of an issue as there is an awareness to what Shabbos means.

Ya but even with a 2 hour delay, I'll still land in TLV over an hour before Shabbos (and FTR last time I landed in TLV I was through passport control in under 5 minutes). As a last resort I have relatives under a 3 hour walk away from TLV, although I admit I'll first have to familiar myself with the halachos of t'chum.

I'm not saying it's not likely that everything will be OK. However when taking a taxi or car service in TLV, you should probably make sure that wherever you are dropped off, the driver has enough time to get to his own home before Shabbos.

Or just take an Arab taxi.
