Israel car rental
« on: January 26, 2016, 02:49:14 PM »
I got price quotes for a week car rental in Israel ranging from $177 to $47.

I need a small car for 2 people. Am I missing something?  Is there a catch when reserving a thrifty/dollar car thru Holidayautos?

Also, how much is liabilty insurance? I will use my sapphire card for CDW.

Is there a master thread for car rental questions/issues in Israel?

Questions that I have:

- how is the quality of compact cars? (for long distance ride to Eilat)

- should I buy/rent quality GPS nav or use phone instead?

- what's the procedure in case of accident? Has anyone used chase ink for CDW and filed claim with them?

- I see low rates on Expedia: $9 a day for Hyundai I10 or Opel Corsa. Midsize is $16-17. Is there a catch?

- Is there a good reason to use Israeli rental company instead of budget or hertz?

- Is it true that all car rental companies charge an airport tax of $27?

We are renting a sholo sixt car and will be driving on route six.  What is the least expensive way to travel on route six with the his company.  We were told their may be a way to call route six and have them mail the fees directly to us.  Does anyone know about this or how much sholmo sixt charges for use if their transponder?

In my experience, the best way to rent in Israel is  the through an agent. Someone like Noach Car rental etc....

A few things to make sure of : If you check online for a rate it might not tell you the additional charges. In Israel Liability is Mandatory and they might not tell you until you get to the counter.

Also be careful about driving on Highway 6 (near Tel Aviv that takes you up North). If you don't register your car they will charge you a lot of money. THERE is a phone number you try this number - 972-3-9081100 or in Israel *6116 and press 7.

If you get a letter from your insurance, do you have to pay liability?

I was surprised to find that Avis now returns to terminal 1. Which car rentals have returns to terminal 3? Thanks.
