http://kelbyone.com/ subscription. Training on photography, Lightroom, Photoshop, and all kinds of related subjects. My cost is $139 ~$150/yr. The more people we get, the cheaper it'll be for everyone. Multiple people could be logged in and watch videos at once; I've done it for three years already. [/q]

Photography and Graphics Training - Kelby
« on: January 26, 2016, 05:57:01 PM »
I'm starting this thread to open a discussion in light of the recent group that formed a membership at Kelby, thanks to DDF's favorite photographer. The purpose of this thread is to be a help thread with a discussion on what courses people found useful and what they liked about them. Hope this will be informative.

I am currently going through Pete Collins' "Beginners Guide to Photography" course and find it very informative. He is a very good teacher and knows how to break down everything to a new audience. Very happy so far.

Yes. He breaks it down beautifully. Though, there were some insights I got from SF's lesson more than from his cuz he demonstrated some concepts with real pictures. So to do both is very complementary.

I watched all of Rick Sammon and some of Frank Doorhof on studio portraits. I would say that Rick is WAY better, mainly because he is realistic. Other than a few creative twists and some cool touches Frank is a waist of time.

Oh would you recommend an in person SF lesson!? I couldn't agree more. SF, thoughts?

Maybe you can start a new group. It seemed that there's sufficient interest.

How does Kelby compare to Lynda or other such sites out there?

Lynda is training on all sorts of stuff, while Kelby is only about photography and related topics, so their more focused. Their quality and variety of classes blows Lynda out of the water. They have a huge number of world-class photographers teaching there, and not just in a studio. Many videos are out on location and the like.

I've used both and there's simply no comparing the two.

Watched a couple videos - I like the on location part but Lynda has some too- take NZ for example.

Wasn't so impressed with the instruction or style of landscape photography so far but maybe I just didn't love the first few photographers.
I'll explore a little more.

Any particular series or class you liked?

I found Rick sammon pretty practical. He's in studio, though, not by landscape.

My videos on Kelby are not loading for some reason. I get the white circle going around as if it's loading, but I'm left just with that. It doesn't start playing. Anyone else have this? Any solution?

Works fine for me... Maybe a Flash issue on your end?

Would guess so, but other things work fine. Which other website uses the same type of vids that require proper functioning Flash? (For example, Lynda works ok by me.)

They added a "community" section that has a forum style give & take, where you can ask questions, give and get answers. Showing as beta for the meantime.
