I'd have just booked a hotel and eaten by Chabad rather than risk what you ran into, but to each their own I suppose.

missed at least 3 flights. (ps, I don't travel often )
Once, my driver to TLV, got involved in an accident on the way to the airport. Elal put me on the next flight.
Twice missed flights in Mia's huge airport. Both times AA put me on the next flight.
So I never learnt a lesson

I don't recall offhand missing any flights but I def cut it close every single time

Halachically, my Rov said it was okay to fly back that night - as in, לכתחלה better not to be מכניס yourself into that ספק when planning, but בשעת הדחק I could rely on the שיטות that say Saturday is Shabbos.

Yup, exactly what my Rov said as well.

Thankfully HA was able to put us on the next flight, but I asked him later what he would've paskened and this is precisely what he said.

Missed a bunch, a few intentionally, don't think I ever had to end up paying for a new ticket, perhaps once for a change fee but I can't recall clearly.

Had an early morning flight on DL from LGA to DFW. Debated whether to daven on the plane or in the lounge. Chose the lounge and by the time I made it to the gate, they closed the door early. Had to take the next flight and was late to an important meeting. Was trying to figure out the lesson learned from that one...

I always said I only missed one flight in my life (and managed to milk some decent compensation for it)...

Then last week, someone reminded me about the time I was 15 years old, booked myself a flight to ORD leaving just past midnight, and showed up to the airport a full day after my flight had departed. Luckily I had a nice rep who took pity on me and rebooked me with no charge.

Never.  I have however leisurely walked right up to my gate (directly from security) right at the moment they begin boarding my ticket/group/whatever a number of times.  IMO that's worth 100 missed flights.

Miss calculated schedule timing on the Northern line tube on an early Sunday morning  UA LHR EWR got on a later flight.

Was stopped  by TSA then the cops SW @ LGA MKE for carrying  80 Credit cards, mostly canceled ones.

LAX JFK showed up late on purpose to be on standby for the next flight.

Have missed 2 flights out of hundreds.
One of them i slept late and missed my alarm. My wife woke me at some point and was like "didnt you have a 6am flight this morning"?

The other i missed because of a car accident ok the highway right before the exit to the airport. Apparently i wasnt the only one... The papers the next day had pictures of people running down the highway pulling suitcases.

Had a similar one LHR-YYZ-EWR
we took the tube and 3 stops before LHR they announce that due to morning rush hour everyone get off and wait for the next train since they are turning this one around...WTF! and the next train to pass was too full to get on.....
We still arrived at the airport more then 60minutes before but waited on the wrong line, got to the right line at 59 minutes and they said sorry, we'll rebook you on the next flight..... for $100 a ticket... (*5) ......
Then the flight was delayed in YYZ and when we got on we just taxied to nowhere, because YYZ doesn;t want us and EWR cant take us..... OH but drinks were free....
