Simple syrup is awesome. Pesach, and all year long. That's not a terrible one at all.

A lot of people do not ANY processed food whatsoever on Pesach, they even use Shmaltz (Chicken Fats what Greeven is made of) instead of oil...

That's what true connoisseurs use! Once you try it, cooking/frying with oil just doesn't cut it. If it wasn't so much work and $$$ we would use it year round.

But technically it's not a chumrah, it just turns out that its probably not kosher for pesach.

Basically my someone (a rosh hayeshiva) went down to the factory and found no jews and goyim running around doing whatever (literally) they wanted. He couldn't imagine that anything was still kosher.

Can people describing chumros and hanhagos mention whether they are chabad or not; for sake of clarity? (Chabad is known to put the others to shame as far as pesach chumros go.)

But as I've said in several occasions, Lubavitch(*) is about Hiddurim, not Chumros.

2. No eating any foods that weren't available in "Der Alter Heim". So since carrots weren't available this early in the season- no carrots!

Is he a Belzer? carrots are a Belzer minhag. In some places they were soaked in alcohol There is etymological justification as well with the Yiddish "Mer'n"
I always thought that this is the craziest thing until I heard that the Rosh writes that you shouldn't make fun of minhagim that you find nutty on Pesach. Since then I keep quiet and stick to my own insanities

I might go into it another time, but just look at the שרש of each of those words. It's a totally different paradigm!

I don't know what he means, but it may be psychological. 
A chumra restricts your behavior. either poor me, I'm deprived, or I'm so holy, look how much I give up for Hashem.
A hiddur enhances the way you do the mitzvah.  You're doing more for your bond with Hashem, because it matters so much to you.

How can you have a hiddur on a shev ve'al taaseh? By definition, it has to be a chumra to avoid asiyah. Hiddur is only shayich in a kiyum, no?

I understand the difference in meaning, but what is the practical difference in this context?
