Virgin Elevate Silver - any tips on talking my way in?

Trying to change my Virgin status to Elevate Silver in order to not have to pay for baggage - being that I am a points n00b, any strategies or thoughts to get them to upgrade me?

I had VS silver and they matched me to VX gold

Thanks for all of the replies - apparently, the card only entitles you to two free checked bags. Silver status is 20K miles, and I have 16K - so I guess I will need to pay for a couple more bags

They're the cheapest by far if you're traveling with lots of bags, stays at $25 per bag.
