Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem VS Lenardo Plaza Hotel
« on: April 26, 2016, 09:33:18 PM »
I need help making a decision, should i stay at the Waldorf Jerusalem or the Lenardo Plaza?

The Lenardo is cheaper, but the rooms are smaller.

What are the cons and pros of each, is it worth paying more for the Waldorf?

I'll be traveling as a couple and two children.

Thanks in advance

The Waldorf is a 5 star luxury hotel. The Leonardo is like a 3 star holiday inn.

Ill put it like this.

Me. i am a high end guy who would choose the Waldorf.

My dad, he likes the Leonardo. Classic, no thrills, descent place.  I stayed with him that the Waldorf for a week and he would still choose the Leonardo.

So short, if you dont care for high end, and looking for a good overall place, Leonardo Plaza is good. If you want luxury, high end, Waldorf. Hope that helps

Lernao was once a sherton but didn't keep up to their standards so they had too leave the sherton club! I think that says a lot.

Idk about the breakfast specifically, but I've been at both hotels for weekends. The Waldorf wipes the plate vs the Leonardo.

Doesn't say much really. Also it was more likely an internal dispute over money and this was given as a reason.

I wouldn't give the Plaza anything close to 3 stars. More like 1.

The last time I was there the room was filthy. Layers of dust and the floor was grimy.

As far as food goes, the WA displays it nicer but both are great.

Yeah but it WAS a great 7,000 SPG redemption once upon a time.

Supposedly they've let it deteriorate.

Don't know if you have Hilton Cc's but I figure I usually get a rebate of 30-40% off what I spend in HHonors points for future bookings.  If you reduced the rooms, meals, etc.  with 30% off the WA pricing would it be comparable to the Leonardo pricing?  Plus you'll most likely get an HHonors upgrade and other benefits.  If the prices are similar after including points earned, it would seem the WA is a much better bang for your buck.  Does that affect your decision making process?

Leonardo is more suited for children. Has a kids playroom on 4th floor, more of a heimish feel. WA has that ritzy feel that can make you uncomf with your kids running all over the place. As far as the rooms are concerned, the leonardo has begun renovating the entire hotel floor by floor but recently stopped due to a issue with their apartment owners. The renovated old city view rooms are beautiful, but not quite WA standards. Food is always great at both hotels, though the WA is more stingy on the portions (unless its buffet)

"Leonardo is more suited for children."

Is this still the case? Thread is a year old.

I will be spending 4 nights in the WA and five nights in the Ritz Herzliya but need a place for three nights before the WA, was told about this place.. Though when i put two children, the site says maximum is one.

I stayed there in January for 4 or 5 nights.  It was solid.  Definitely not the Waldorf. More like a Crowne Plaza. The breakfast was excellent -- more food choices and quantity than you could ever want, enough variety for five days. But it wasn't as fancy or as extensive as the WA breakfast.  If the WA breakfast is a 10/10, this would be an 8.

I don't know about the kid policy...most hotels in Israel seem to allow max 3people per room.

Just curious why it would be more kid friendly though?  From my perspective the big downside of the WAJ is that there isn't a pool.  If I was actually going to pay for somewhere else I think I'd probably to the David Citadel.

Does it have to be in Jerusalem?  The Hilton Tel Aviv definitely let's you put four on the reservation and because the kids couldn't go in the executive lounge, let all of us go to the main restaurant for breakfast, too.

I stayed at the Leonardo by myself.  They do have a pool. I can't really say any more about its suitability for families, other than that there were quite a few frum families there. Nice to learn that Hilton TA allows 4 per room.  The other place I mentioned that allows 4+ is the Ramada Hadera, where we are booked for February.
