currently the only cards i have are a citibank reguar card and and amex gold charge card. I have had the citi card for about 2.5 years have never missed a payment or left a balance on the card. They started me with a pretty low credit i called them to request a credit increase today and they told me that they would have to pull up a report from a credit beuro I assume this is a hard pull. is this the normal practice for banks when someone requests a credit increase.
amex did a hard pull when i asked them to increase my CL. (they didnt even end up increasing it!) I didnt realize they would do it, but now that i know i would NEVER ask for an increase, because the hard pulls are really dragging down my score
My bet is your score will recover within 3-6 months (assuming other factors e.g. utilization don't change).
Yeah however even of my score goes up I need to wait two years for the inquiries to fall off, no?
I think when people get declined for too many inquiries, it often means too many recent inquiries. I may be wrong about that though.
I agree, when i was arguing with Chase recon, I asked them is the problem too many inquiries?, they told me "well, in the last 6 months you only have..." implying that they only care about the last 6 months and not more.
i just tried requesting an increase on a capital one card i have and they told me i got denied (and ive tried a few times in the prior months) but they told me its done through the system automatically - usually every 6 moths.how do i know if i got a hard pull from it or not?
Should've asked the rep. You can try getting a copy of your report (IndentityMonitor?) in a few days and seeing if there's a pull from Cap1. I'd be wary of doing anything with Cap1 that involves pulls, because they have this nasty tendency to pull from all three bureaus.
i asked the rep and he said "i dont want to say anything cuz idk forsure" but he said it may be
Hope you didn't get three pulls...
i hope so to, i just not sure how to check, i didnt understand what u said
sign up for Identity Monitor 30 day trial for $1 (don't forget to cancel before the 30 days are up), upgrade to the 3-bureau report (left sidebar right after you login, once you've set up your account) and you should see all your pulls.
i got 3 pulls! - if only i wouldve known...i thought id speed up the process if i called them! what happens now? now if i apply for a CC itll be harder to get accepted?
Yup.Cap1 is an evil evil company.
oh great, well i was waiting till end of january to apply for a chase card (2bm) bec chase tols me i have a better chance if i had the cap1 for a year which will be soon. but should i sit waiting for a little longer?
