Chase Sapphire Reserve BENEFITS master thread

5/24 applies to this card
Minimum $10K of CL is needed, so if you can't get 10K on an instant, there's another great reason to get declined

DansDeals.com » Blog Archive » Chase Sapphire Reserve Additional User Benefits And Lounge Guesting Policy Are Awesome!

There are multiple instances reported on this very thread of someone who was way over 5/24 and did not have PC and who got approval after recon.

The information below no longer applies for 2016/2017 but should still be useful for 2017/2018

Can you still get a 2016 travel credit if you apply now for a Sapphire Reserve card?

People have been reporting various due dates in January. If you get a due date between the 6th to the 25th then your bill will close between December 9th-28th and you will have time to spend the $300 in 2016 travel credit.

It is definitely still possible to get those due dates, but there’s no guarantee. If you do apply then be sure to call reconsideration to see if you can get approved today.
You may also be able to change your payment due date to generate a December statement if your due date is earlier than January 6 or later than January 25th. Just call to have you due date changed to January 25th to have your statement close on December 28th.

From here. Hopefully this will stop the constant questions.

All of my spending is dining/travel.  I will likely not be eligible for CSR for a while due to 5/24.  Any reason not to just upgrade my CSP to CSR, so I can take advantage of the 3x points on dining/travel, as well as the 1.5 portal redemption (living in Israel, that's often helpful with non-points hotels)?
That is a very good option

You just need to calculate when you will be able to get it, with how many extra points you will make by upgrading. If you spend $10 a year, obviously you should wait. If you spend $200000 a year, obviously you wouldn't.

Upgrading to CSR doesn't give you a signup bonus.  So when you're eligible for a new chase card, if the bonus is right, (downgrade the card,) apply for the CSR.  You'll be eligible for the bonus, having never received it.

At $10: no.  At $200,000: yes  ::)
Glad to have helped facilitate your decision-making process!

On the Sapphire Reserve card I got charged the annual fee and for 2 Au's   55 days ago. If I downgrade it now will I get refunded for everything or at least prorated? Or not get any refund?

But call. ask. Then decide if you're closing / downgrading or not.
I think if you downgrade, you'll get a pro-rated refund.

Will I get prorated for the 2 Au's also? (I believe I shouldn't cancel the au's, just downgrade the main card and they should pro rate the AF and for the au's fee, no?

The travel credit is now per anniversary year (not calendar year), but you should be grandfathered into the old rules. Hence January 1st would be your reset date.

I am now at 4/24 (if you discount the AU's, which I appreciate will require HUCA).
I would like to apply for the CSR.

If I understand the current rules, there is no significant advantage to applying and getting approved before the end of the calendar year. Is that correct?

Sign-up bonus is currently 50K.  Should I wait for a higher sign-up bonus?

There's no advantage to now or after the new year, the credit goes by cardmember year now. I wouldn't count on the SUB going up any time soon. If I were you I would get the Ink preferred first though.

The credit is per card member year, so no real advantage to signing up asap. IMO the bonus isn't going up anytime soon, but I could be wrong. Depending on how yo u will utilize this card, it may be worth it not to wait.

Thank you both.
Ink Preferred...because of 80k signup bonus, or is there some other reason?
I already have InkPlus for 5x at office stores.
I was thinking the CSR would be useful for the 1.5 hybrid points and the travel protections.  Would appreciate opinions here.

The Ink's bonus is the highest public UR offer at the moment, making it lucrative. The CSR is a great option for travel and dining at 3ppd, unless you have a 5x card. The 1.5 value alone is a great reason to have it, but you can still get a solid 1.25 with the ink or SP. When you combine it with the Freedom and/or FU it's great also.

Nice.
Am I correct that I should be able to get InkPreferred first and then subsequently get the CSR, since the Ink is a business card and doesn’t count toward 5/24.  Couldn’t get CSR first, because that would be my 5th. Is that correct thinking?

Correct, you could also apply for both at the same time.
