First Class
Seats 1A and 2AThis trip was enabled through several acts of kindness, the biggest clearly coming from my mother in law who was nice enough to come to us (
after her 3 week trip to Japan and Vietnam) for the entire week and watch my kids. The other "less obvious" kindness came from my cousin who was nice enough to take us to JFK that morning at 715a. We were at the check-in counter by 735a and were checked-in, through security and in the lounge by 745a. It helps when there are no lines at the check-in counter as well as at security.
We then headed to the
British Airways Galleries First Lounge over which we do not need to lose anymore words. Underwhelming at best.
This was my wife’s first premium flight and our first one in which we traveled together. As advised by AJK (tyvm) we snagged seats 1A and 2A allowing us to have the entire left side of the plane to ourselves. There was one more passenger in F that day situated in seat 1K who we basically didn’t see throughout our flight. The flight was decent and uneventful.
Some Blue Label after joint dinner which failed to make me sleepyVery comfy bedThings to note: - I will try choosing a different flight time for my next trip via HKG. I got zero minutes of sleep. My wife though managed to sleep for a few hours.
- Excellent PJs.
- Best bed so far
- Excellent Tea
- Was not so impressed by the soft product but that could have been just my flight
- Lack of liquor selection and knowledge compared to other F experiences (asked for a cocktail from the menu and was brought juice instead)
We landed close to an hour early and being that our flight to CNX was not leaving until 3:20p I thought we should definitely have a bit of time to check out “The Wing”. Side note: The descent and landing into HKG is one of a kind. I really really enjoyed it with the beautiful clouds and the surrounding mountains.
Landing in HKGIt was around a 15min walk to The Wing and we headed straight for the cabanas. Showered and refreshed we relaxed and ordered some drinks before heading over to our gate eventually. The Dragon Air flight was fine as well and soon enough we were descending into Chiang Mai.
The WingThe CabanasWe landed and expected to be out and about within minutes. Wrong. Very wrong. The immigration lines were at least 60 people deep with immigration officers working at snail pace. I then found myself in the ASEAN line but having already wasted 25 minutes in it was not willing to leave my spot. My wife ended up going over to the regular foreigner line and we kept eye contact to see how I was progressing. Thank God after 50+ minutes in line the officer deemed me – and my wife who I had waived back over by now - ASEAN enough to let us proceed through the line.
Looooong linesLuggage in hand and money exchanged we headed for the cabs. 300 Baht later we were on our way to the hotel which was about 20 minutes away.
