illegal or against company policy?

Illegal in the sense that it's legally questionable whether you can link the account and authorize the payment if the bank account isn't in your name (even if the bank accountholder gives you permission to do so).

So you think the FR rep I spoke to didnt know what she was talking about?

Why not just try calling up Amex and asking them this directly?

Great point about the ribis; being involved with any ribis even if its just because the credit card charged it could be a real issue.

Also, it could be a myth, but I was under the impression that paying someone's credit card with someone else's bank account was illegal...
While on the Ribbis topic...
I once asked consulted a rabbi on this topic and he directed me to Rabbi Yisroel Reisman of Flatbush. He said this rov focuses particularly on Ribbis issues..
Does anyone know this Rav and how he can be reached?

Unless he can read YOSEF's mind, I would assume Ashero and YOSEF are the same person, judging from posts #19-#21...

Why does he have to be reading his mind? He is explaining YOSEF's post...

I happen to know Yosef personally...believe me, he is not AsherO

You are reading too far into his post, or perhaps you are looking for something...

Ye? How does he know exactly whar YOSEF meant?
I think the one who is reading too far is you... There's something called humor in case you don't know what it means..

There is humor and then there is having a good sense of humor. If what you said does not come across as funny...

By you asking the question:
Ye? How does he know exactly whar YOSEF meant?
it means you are serious and were not trying to be funny. He doesnt have to know exactly what he meant. He was supporting what yosef said and expounding on it. Why does that mean he knows what yosef meant. Someone asked a question and he was answering it.

Indeed, I was trying to make a point with a touch of humor involved, what's the problem man?

Thanks for the link...so we know that works for sure...can anyone confirm having issues using amex site? That would be a heck of a lot easier IMO
i do this too, with discover, amex, citi and chase(on line payments), yet always from an account with the same surname. did anyone try this with a different surname?

Also, it could be a myth, but I was under the impression that paying someone's credit card with someone else's bank account was illegal...

Is entirely illegal at least according to bofa fraud dept...Had a terrible experience with BOFA Fraud Dept a couple years ago - my accounts got closed.  That said, I'd done it on almost every other account of mine - without any problem, for years.  It was only when I made a klutzy mistake that they caught on - and they toasted me for it...I had no idea there was a problem with it...but apparently its committing some sort of fraud...Doesnt make sense that they dont audit it - I dont get it...If I was in charge of it.... ::)

(also - due to the illegality thereof - i think this thread should be ...)
