My Walmart won't accept Visa debit cards

My Walmart always allowed me to use Visa debit cards to purchase money orders. Today they told me they are longer able to accept them for money orders or Walmart Bill Pay. Anyone else have a similar experience lately?

It can be hit or miss. At one WM I went to they never cared (but it was a 30 min drive). At another there was a CSR who always wanted to check the card to see if it was a VGC and then wouldn't allow it. If she wasn't there then you could use them.

It became so unreliable that I just switched to USPS MOs.

Right - but you can only get $1000 at a time at USPS correct?

Max of the MO is 1k. You can get multiple MOs, if the clerk allows...

She said there was a system-wide change that will stop the Visa Debit cards from working in the future. There were too many counterfeit Visa debit cards. 
Anyone else have this experience? Can this be correct?

I went back to the same WM but a different clerk - worked fine. The other clerk who has done this for me many times, must've had a bad day. Thanks for your replies.
