I think you will probably get charged a fee on the downgrade. I think you can get another 5k for going to the green card.

somehow when I did this with the biz card the fee got lost in the downgrade. either way I guess I am gonna go for it.

My annual fee just posted and I called to say Im thinking of closing it. They offered me $100 credit so the AF would be $75.00 is it worth it to keep it open?

Just keep in mind you will not be able to transfer out miles unless you have a gold or platinum card.

U can apply for a different card that is MR and then cancel the other one

If you know that you want to use the miles for a particular trip, just transfer the miles over to that airline.
