no one needs a 2br in Phukhet...

I guess I'm the only one who has more than two kids and brings them on my trips!  I was actually thinking of doing a round the world with them and since Bankok has good flights to Israel was thinking to bring them  to a couple places in Asia before heading to Israel.  Was gonna stay at the Conrad Koh Samui but would need two units and it's a boatload of points, so this was a better option for me although I realize I'm older than most DDFers! :P

My kids are old enough to bring as well... but i think some trips are not them.... if there's a over water bungalow in town i would say that's 1 way to tell it's time to leave the kids home.

Where will you go?  Whats the best Marriott hotels to take advantage of this?

Just found one I wanted to add: The Sortis hotel, in Panama, now part of the trendy Marriott Autograph collection and it appears to have a high-end kosher restaurant right in its complex! There are about 15 kosher restaurants in Panama and this one is called Kava.  It's only Tier 5 so a great use of a week cert if you've got one to burn with a Flight+Hotel deal or its reasonable amount of SPG points too.

Good find. However, when going to Panama especially over shabbos you are much better off staying at the Trump hotel that is relatively cheap and right by the Shuls, restaurants and Jewish Community.

A great way I used a certificate was at the Residence in La Jolla, San Diego. It is a catagory 6 but for another 10K points per night you can get a 2 floor 2 bedroom suite with a kitchen and living room. It's a 15 minute walk to the beautiful shul and around the corner from Kosher takeout at Ralphs.

I am always looking for good values for Marriott stays as I have quite of few certificates. The Marriott vacation clubs where you can get large suites can be a great value. Please keep on posting ideas on best value of Marriott points and certificates!

We're actually going to Panama in a couple of weeks and are staying at the Hilton, which is also super close for Shabbos, I just thought this was a great cert use, even if you "wasted" the Shabbos night.  That find in La Jolla is awesome!  I'm hoping to transfer from SPG soon and trying to figure out where to use it.  How did you do the 10k upgrade? Did they offer it on the website after you booked?  I love La Jolla and have family in LA.  I've listed above a number of the 2brm villa properties, one is the Marriott Newport Coast, which is really beautiful, but no shul for Shabbos....maybe the Residence Inn would be a better option.  Do they have a pool?

Would love to hear about your Panama trip upon your return.

It a category 6 but to upgrade to the 2 bedroom you need 2 additional upgrade certificates per night which is 5k each.

I'm holding off Marriott stays for now as I want to keep renewing my platinum which would take 75 Marriott nights and only 50 spg nights.

You can also be SPG plat with 25 stays. C&P and all-points stays count, too. That can be the easiest option for some business travelers who only stay 1-2 nights per trip.

You can upgrade without the 10k points too, although I didn't find that hotel to be very clean. IIRC we actually had an aunt problem there.

Lesson learned, never bring your aunt with you on vacation.

I think one of the absolute values for frum families is the Marriott Vacation Club options (timeshares) where they allow reward redemptions.  A lot of them are built where EVERY unit is a large 2BR unit that sleeps eight with a full kitchen and washer and dryer, so for the same amount of points as the hotel nearby (or sometimes next door where you can use the amenities) you get this huge unit that is the "standard" room.  One of my favorites is the Marriott Newport Coast Villas.  I have a list I've put together for myself and I'll work to post it here for everyone.

Did you ever post that list? I've been looking to book such a Marriott vacation, with a week night and flight certificate, but they always ask for 10k points per night to upgrade.

Can you enlighten me?

Thanks
