Well Casey lost his new mavic on the water already...
And a $400 one that arrived this morning.
I'm not who you think I am.

I can't fathom why he has such a tremendous following.

Having now watched a few of his videos, I must say I disagree. I do find him engaging.

I discovered him through his snowboarding video which was entertaining, yet I can't get through any of his other videos. There's something annoying about him.

He puts out so much content, the vast majority of which is nonsense. But he's definitely very talented, and can produce some great footage when he's actually trying to.

Also, check out nerdwriter on Casey (and just about everything else - nerdwriter is freaking amazing):

Sometimes I come across a video or music that I feel I need to be stoned to appreciate. With his stuff it seems like I need to be on speed...

Mavic is not the same quality but i agree on the convenience is key and 28% More flight time*
Back on topic...

It's actually really close once you add the post sharpening that the mavic doesn't do by default:

600% crop of of 4k from the 3, with all 3 positioned so that the FOV is the same.

Everyone who wants good footage :-X

That being said, DJI has stated (in response to the above test) that the sharpness will be an adjustable setting in the app.

So there will be no down time in processing it?

I don't need Hollywood-level footage. I need something that works out of the box.

Adjustable setting meaning it'll be auto set to infinity?

No, that's focus. This is how much sharpening the processor will apply (think JPEG processing).

Wasn't the whole issue with soft images being attributed to lack of focus?

Wasn't the whole issue with soft images being attributed to lack of focus?

The focus is the main culprit, but even when focused properly the image is still sorter than the P4. In-camera sharpening could mitigate that to an extent.

It's important to remember that the test above is at 600% - to see that in real life your monitor will need to be something like 10 feet across and 24k resolution. In real life the footage will look perfectly sharp. The sharpening discussed here applies only to heavy crops or to still images, and only if you're more interested in the technicalities of the camera than in actually producing good imagery.

As long as you focus properly you could safely ignore that test. Yes, the P4 seems sharper, but not particularly in a way that most people will ever notice.
