Everyone who wants good footage :-X

That being said, DJI has stated (in response to the above test) that the sharpness will be an adjustable setting in the app.
So there will be no down time in processing it?

I don't need Hollywood-level footage. I need something that works out of the box.

Adjustable setting meaning it'll be auto set to infinity?

No, that's focus. This is how much sharpening the processor will apply (think JPEG processing).

Wasn't the whole issue with soft images being attributed to lack of focus?

The focus is the main culprit, but even when focused properly the image is still sorter than the P4. In-camera sharpening could mitigate that to an extent.

It's important to remember that the test above is at 600% - to see that in real life your monitor will need to be something like 10 feet across and 24k resolution. In real life the footage will look perfectly sharp. The sharpening discussed here applies only to heavy crops or to still images, and only if you're more interested in the technicalities of the camera than in actually producing good imagery.

As long as you focus properly you could safely ignore that test. Yes, the P4 seems sharper, but not particularly in a way that most people will ever notice.

All I'm really concerned about--and it's what I think you're saying--is the focus issue.

Are they doing anything to fix that issue, as far as you know?

No fix yet. The rep claims no fix needed, which is unfortunately typical DJI stubbornness (witness the GEO fiasco).

Cool. Just discovered that Flying Trump could be dual-op'd - one person flying and one person controlling the camera. Could make for some epic shots.

This is normally only found on far more expensive drones, like the Inspire 1.

Reports now that DJI will unlock all NFZs if you have a Part 107 license. The unlock is for one year and you need to go into the menu and select the "Unlimit" option every time you are the rotors (:o).

Very cool!

Weird it's not offered on MP, but is on P4.

The MP isn't out yet, so I imagine it'll get it eventually.

IIRC LensRentals has them. Sign up for their emails and they'll send you a coupon for your first order.

It won't be cheap though...

Phantom 4 Battery Operating Temperature:   14° to 104° F ( -10° to 40° C )
Mavic Pro Battery Operating Temperature:   41° to 104° F ( 5° to 40° C )

Ouch. Of course you can use them in lower temperatures, as long as you keep the batteries warm and them keep the drone in a hover for two minutes or so to warm it up even further, but this huge discrepancy is worrying.

Isn't the Phantom battery inside the drone, protected vs the Mavic?

Yep. The Mavic pops on the top, while the P4 slide into a compartment.
