I bought yesterday the Yuneec Breeze for $325. It is a gift for my mother for my brother that does event planning and would mostly use it to get good shots of his events.

Is there anything better for the price range?

The DJI Spark is $382 on Amazon right now... im sure other sellers have great deals on it as well...

The only thing is that it would require a smartphone as the controller or youd need to buy the controller seperately.... Ive heard the range goes up significantly, as well as ease of use, with the actual DJI controller...

It's pretty useless without the controller. A selfie cam, basically.

WOW! Price dropped to $239 now  :-[

My brother is already getting his 2nd (free from Amazon...) after a rough land on one of the first flights... But I drove it and it is simply an awesome machine.

I need a drone recommendation, I will be using it for eruvin designing. Thanks
does it make sense to start out with something like this:  https://www.amazon.com/Syma-2-4G-Camera-Quadcopter-2-0MP/dp/B00MNG37C2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1513060166&sr=8-1&keywords=Syma+X5C+2.4G+6+Axis+Gyro+HD+Camera+RC+Quadcopter+with+2.0MP+Camera
and then upgrade to something decent in the 400-500 range?

That's a toy. If you plan on upgrading in the future then just do it now

Is it not worth learning how to fly it on a toy?  are they easy to learn how to fly?

IMHO not. The toy isn't really easy to learn to fly good...but the good ones are pretty easy (if you follow the simple instructions that is.)

I hear ok,  Can you recommend a good one? are there any decent ones for under 700-800, or is it worth it to just to spend the 700-800 now and be done?

Doing simple math, if the 7-800 is inevitable, why pay more than that for a beginners'? (Unless, obviously, you don't have the 7-800 to lay out now.)

As I wrote above the Yuneec Breeze 4K is a great option for decent but not too expensive.

Others mentioned the DJI Spark.

Wow, big news today: The FAA registration rules have been ruled illegal.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/johngoglia/2017/05/19/federal-appeals-court-voids-faa-registration-rule-for-model-aircraft/#d72a423836f6

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/drone-pilots-dont-have-to-register-under-faas-controversial-rule-court-rules-2017-05-19

According to multiple reports the FAA is unlikely to appeal the ruling and is expected to update its rules in the coming weeks.
Registration back on.

Finally took the plunge and got a mavic.
1) Is DJI care refresh a good idea? its basically $100 +$79 for a $770 purchase and if you  loose it over water you screwed. (I read that Im better off with a homeowner personal property insurance?)
2) is the FAA license required or not?

I think it could be used when it's colder, but you'll need to let it warm up and you will lose flight time.
I only paid 15% by switching to dansdeals

I've used it much colder than that, just be aware of shorter flying times.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Bump
I took out a policy with state farm.
I'm up for renewal it's $50, no deductible and it covers everything including lost or stolen.
