Google Apps for Work vs. Office 365 Email
« on: October 19, 2016, 07:05:28 AM »
So I am looking to transfer my work email to either Google Apps, now known as G-Suite, or Office 365 Exchange. Anyone here have experience with both?

I am leaning more towards Google Apps as I don't need the Office package and the Google Apps, scripts, voice (I want to cancel my voip line and transfer my number here as it's not used that much), is more enticing.

Anyone have any experience with both??

I have Office 365 and enjoy the exchange service at $4 per email
i don't use any of their cloud apps

I actually would love to "try" Google but i don't think you can just try it
I would have to switch everyone over

or try it on a dummy email address

if it works like Gmail it has to be good

I got a email this week from Exchange saying My Inbox is full
I stopped using folders and it seems 50GB is my Max
I had to manually archive 2 years of emails
hopefully that helps make space

OWA app is nice as is outlook but i switched back to Native mail app on ios
which is now a Disaster due to their thread innovation....

I signed up for google apps when it was free for small businesses <50 users, and I'm grandfathered in. I've only used Office 365 sparingly.

One other caveat with Google - your @mydomain.com account isn't truly a gmail account for all services. There was a period where they'd only open up new services to Gmail accounts - for example, Google Fi - and it would take a long time for Google To port Google apps accounts.

I think that the big difference is that with Office, you can still use the Desktop versions of Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook and save everthing either locally or in the cloud.

With Google, everything is web based. I honestly have not tried to use it offline, but I would imagine that the MS Experience is better.

I assume you mean $4 per email address and not per email - that could get pretty expensive :)

Correct - and those cutovers can get messy, and take up to a couple of days even if they're setup right.

To be technically correct, it's neither. It's per email account. You could have plenty of aliases, or shared mailboxes for free.

If you're looking to integrate 365 email with other software (smtp) it's quit buggy hit or miss.

Search Google for some show stopping bugs they've had over the years.

I didn't mean it seriously, but my experience has been that apple users have been much less likely to complain about general bugginess than Windows users. Of course no OS is exempt.

sure you're bound to their limited scope {no} bugs, Google is open source multiple manufactures anyone could modify the os, develop what ever they want as long the technology can handle it of course you got bugs would i blame google? no!

(google has to deal with every screen size phone type anyone in japan china USA decided will bring in some money and run all apps smooth vs apple everything is created under one roof by designers with limited developer capability compared to google)

many prefer the familiarity and ease of use in gmail vs O365.

Gmail is not great for businesses where you want people sorting etc.
great for personal emails that you read and burn

Labeling is great, especially when you use keyboard shortcuts. But sorting is non-existent...
