Best internet only plan?
« on: October 23, 2016, 12:43:26 PM »
I live in Passaic, NJ - suggestions, please? Optimum just raised my rate for the basic plan to $55/month - for that price, I could get a Verizon fios 50/50 plan (though it'd probably come out more after taxes and fees).

What do you guys suggest?

Can you ask Verizon if they have a 25mgps plan?

Optimum raised my bill to $100 for phone/Internet. I currently have Internet speed of 20 mbps, I just spoke to Verizon and my area does not have fios, only regular Internet of 7 mbps, but this rep kept on insisting that the Internet speeds will be just as strong if not faster  than optimum because of a 'dedicated line' is that true??

Personally I would not believe the rep. Did she also tell you that it is "High Speed Internet" so of course it will be faster?

Yes, does that mean that it is faster , or am I getting slow Internet since it's not FIOS?

No, they invented High Speed Internet before they invented FIOS, so it's smaller. I'd base it off the mbps they tell you.

You could switch to Verizon for now and in a few months go back to optimum for a new promo. Keep an eye on any possible contracts.
You can also play hardball with optimum and tell them to lower price or u leave.

Optimum's promos are silly right now, the best they can give me is $75 for phone& Internet or $60 for Internet only... So I'm going to switch to Verizon, almost same price as optimum anyhow, and they are waving first month bill...  No contract/agreement, I think that's because it's not FIOS... We'll give it a shot and see how it goes...

Optimum just gave me $39.99 (plus $5 for modem rental) for 60 mb/s.

That was after they had told me there was nothign available like that, and then I got exactly that offer at my parent's house.

Called them up, they agreed to lower price, never happened. Called back, they claimed no record of earlier call, couldn't find the recording. Emailed the corporate office, gave them a chance to fix things before it became a fraud case, they called me back and backdated the lower price.

optimum has right now 20/20 for $20 a month, bargain.

Problem is they want to charge me $60 for installation, which is crazy because the previous tenant had optimum, all i should have to do is plug into the modem. They are claiming they have to reconnect at the pole...

New customers or returning customers everyday I've been getting this offer in the mail to "please come back to us"
I'd imagine even current customers can negotiate/threaten to leave

I've been trying that lately and it's not working out for me... Only option is to leave for 2 months then you're considered a 'new costumer'...

I got Verizon 100/100 for $40/month 2 months ago. The first month was $50 but after sending back their router and using my own, my bill is $40.65
