downgrading the chase sapphire preferred

i just called to downgrade my chase sapphire preferred to the freedom unlimited and the rep told me the only card they allow to downgrade to is the reg sapphire. i HUCA and the next rep told me the very same thing. did anyone else have such an experience?

just an update, i had to first transfer to the regular sapphire and then i was allowed to switch to the freedom unlimited. i was also credited the full amount of the annual fee for my SP. i hope this helps.

When was it billed to you?
The CSR told me that if I downgrade to the FU, I will not get the bonus even if I've never had the FU before.  She said you only get a bonus if you apply directly, not downgrading.  ??
