New York, NY - January 12, 2017 - B&H Photo Video today announced it will move its fulfillment center operations currently located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard to a new, larger facility in Florence Township, NJ by the end of the year. This move comes following an exhaustive, unsuccessful search to relocate to a larger facility within New York City. The Navy Yard warehouse lease expires in 2018 with no renewal agreement, necessitating the move.
"We outgrew the existing facility some time ago, and the only reason it still works is due to the outstanding efforts of our employees," VP of Operations Jacob Mittelman said. "We value them and hope they will come with us to this new facility."
B&H partnered with Jones Lang LaSalle (NYSE: JLL) for several years in an effort to find suitable, available space as part of its search. "The booming commercial real estate market has made finding a suitable space virtually impossible," Rob Kossar of JLL said. "Our search began in New York and continued to northern New Jersey then central New Jersey before finding a suitable facility in Florence Township."
B&H also worked with officials from the NYS ESDC for several years in an effort to find suitable, available space as part of its search.
All warehouse employees impacted by the decision have been offered the opportunity to relocate to the new facility. The move will take place in stages over the second half of the year. The B&H Superstore, store warehouse, and corporate offices will remain in NYC with over 1,500 employees working in those locations.
The new fulfillment center is a 500,000+ square foot facility, with state of the art technology allowing B&H to better serve customers in a quicker and more efficient manner.
"The Navy Yard has been good to us and we wish we could have moved to a bigger and better facility right around the corner, but such a facility just doesn't exist," Mittelman said. "We are confident this move is the right one to ensure the continued growth of our business."
