PRIORITY PASS
« on: May 10, 2011, 01:06:59 AM »
Does anyone know if you cancel your amex platinum and you already got the priority access pass, Does the priority access  still work to get into lounges like the platinum card still works until the card expires? or do they stop allowing access when you cancel the platinum card?

A friend got a letter from priority pass after canceling his pat card, saying that his priority pass card has also been canceled.

A friend got a letter from priority pass after canceling his pat card, saying that his priority pass card has also been canceled.
Interesting. let me show you a back-and-forth email that I had with Priority pass. I Wrote as follows:
"To whom it may concern at the Priority Pass center.
I知 now enrolled in the prestige membership level, thru my American express platinum card.
Since I知 taking into consideration to close my Amex credit card in a few weeks, I壇 like to know if I値l still stay
enrolled un your program.
Sincerely,
Sice Incomer"
They replied:
"Thank you for your inquiry. The membership would remain active until the expiration date on
April 05, 2014. Please let us know if we may be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Priority Pass, Inc. is part of Priority Travel Group (USA) Ltd., a division of the
Collinson Group.
Priority Pass, Inc.

I replied back to be sure:
"And just to be sure, will I stay enrolled in my current status, that is free of charge, or will I be billed if I close the card in
the end?
Thanks
Side incomer".
Tehy replied:
"Your membership has already been paid for by your American Express card. You will not be
billed at the expiration of the membership. The only time there is a charge is when you take a
guest to the lounge. The fee per guest is a $27.00 charge.
Thank You,

I had already received my priority pass, i then cancelled, and about a week later got a letter stating that my status has been discontinued. i can however retain that status by paying them the $300 something in fees.

could it be that it will only stay active if you've been a member for some time (like 30 days or so)? cuz i canceled literally like a week after getting my card...

I don't think the airlines can check to see if the card is active.  And how will they charge you $27 if they have no active card to charge it to? (Catch 22-if it is active they shouldn't be charging anything!)

I believe they sent it, just saying it doesn't sound enforceable.
YMMV.

I used it this week, they swiped it I had to sign a receipt with my name on it, I'm not sure why.
Is it possible that PP card is automatically linked to the Amex card to charge $27 for a guest?
I asked them if I can bring in a guest for free they said sure, then they swiped it,

I have had a priority pass card for the last 2-3 years and used it many times. every lounge is a little different. let me try to break it down.
Every lounge will take your card information and make you sign (I say take because some of them still do a imprint and some swipe. Some lounges even if the card is inactive (not expired but actually canceled) will just assume there is something wrong and take down the card number manually, others will deny you entry although this is rare. If you leave the Priority pass card active and cancel the credit card associated with the card it will still work although once priority pas sees you accessed a lounge they will send you a email or letter in the mail asking you to update you cc.

I also received letter from ppass saying I recently canceled my plat amex and I should please call them to "discuss subscription arrangements" as my membership is no longer active. But I assume its YMMV in terms of getting into various lounges with the card and as its been said - it isnt linked to any credit card so whats the worst that will happen? another letter?
