Topic Wiki

Best offer available right now is $50 for internet & phone for 6 months, afterwards bumped up to $60/month.
Standalone internet service isn't cheaper. You can try calling retention to extend your promotional rate, though recently DDFers have been unsuccessful.

The best available promo for Optimum internet (only), is the $40/month for 12 months for new customers.
Many people reported success in retaining the $40/month plan (after 12 months) after calling Optimum to cancel.

The old promo for internet was $30, but that has been replaced with the $40 plan around May 2013.
As of now, it isn't coming back, even with persistent HUCA, but users have had success upgrading to a higher speed plan for $45/month

U can or may buy your own router and it will be cheaper in the long run otherwise they'll supply one for a monthly fee of course. Somewhere around here there's some discussion as to which modem works for optimum.

Thanks guys.

So what’s the best package/rate?
Call them and see what they have. It also depends on how heavily you will be using your internet to decide on the right speed.
So I need it buy a modem? Which model would work with optimum?
Any docsis 3.0 modem.

What I wrote before about it being ~$40 was only because I had a specific model in mind that also works with optimum voice if you decide that it's a good option for you. It's the Arris Tm822g or tm822a but you have to make sure that it is confirmed to work with optimum before you buy it used because sometimes it's locked to other cable providers.

But if you have no plans on using optimum voice than there are better routers.

I won’t be using it so heavily.

If I use optimum voice I will need a different router? They provide the modem for free?

My pleasure.

I'd say ~30mbps would be good then.

No you don't need a special router. The router that they give for free to use should be fine.

If you use their modem they will charge you every month for the modem no matter what plan you have.

Did you try using it on optimum? It says in the details that it will only work with Xfinity.
