Photographers: Free Copy of the Amazing DXO OpticsPro 9

This normally costs $199.

I've had this for a number of years now and highly recommend it. It's similar to Lightroom and does your typical RAW editing and so on, but the beauty lies in its incredible noise reduction capabilities. Whenever I have a picture that's hopelessly noisy (either from too-high an ISO or waaay underexposed) I drop it into OpticsPro and let the magic happen. Lightroom and Photoshop don't even come close.

This is not the very latest version (that would be 11), but you'd get pretty much the same denoising capabilities. I'm still on 9, myself.

LOL

Here:

And then we have ISO. As discussed in the last lesson, the higher the ISO, the more noise in the picture. To keep a perfectly sharp and clean picture the ISO should be as low as possible. That's why when you need more light, you may have to go back to your aperture or shutter speed.

These two pictures (taken from the last lesson) show the clear difference between a low ISO (400), low noise picture (top) and a high ISO (8000), high noise picture (bottom):

BTW this is also a decent alternative for editing RAW files without paying for Lightroom. It's not the same of course, but pretty darn good for free.

No, but it's pretty straightforward.

Do you use it in combination with Lightroom? LR processing first?

I do DXO first, so that it could work on the RAW file. I then save as TIFF and finish in LR.

If I need to do something in LR that requires the RAW too, I'd process the RAW in both and then manually blend in PS.

If only saving an edited file in RAW were possible, but alas, by definition, it isn't.

Good point, I didn't really think that one through.
