Car Rental: Budget Rent-A-Car, $5 per day (+ tax, fees, and mandatory insurance).
Only way out is to bring Printed PROOF from your credit card that you have primary insurance for car rentals thru your credit card.
They ask each party to push a button that either triggers a red light or green light. A green light means you can continue without further screening and red light means the opposite.
We were selected and they are FOOD NAZI's!!

insane!!! and I can't believe the amount of the kosher products in the mini bar.
This is the coolest thing I would have sat there with a Timelapse video.....
When the officer came to our window, he asked for my license and rental documents but didnít really speak English. He seemed friendly enough overall though. I tried to explain that I just arrived and thought I was following. Not a great defense, admittedly, but it was the best I could come up with under the circumstances. The officer kindly said that he was sorry but would have to give me a ticket as he didnít want to hurt the economy. Thinking that was my cue, I did what Dan did and asked if I could pay the ticket now. The officer said no. Rather than continue pleading in my broken Spanish, I took out my phone and started conversing with the officer using Google Translate. He asked were we were going and what brought us to Mexico. The conversation was very friendly, and I kept on looking for opportunities to get out of the ticket. Finally, I asked if he would let me off with a warning. He begrudgingly agree, but said I would have to show gratitude. I went back to my car, slipped a $20 into my passport and handed it to. I then wrote into Google Translate that I would use cruise control for the rest of my drive. He slipped the $20 into his pocket, and wished me an enjoyable trip. I kind of wonder how little I could have given and still gotten out of the ticket, but wasnít willing to try and find out. We still had a long drive ahead of us, and $20 was not a bad price to pay to avoid a ticket.
$20 Well Worth it! I can't believe $20 could do it!

The rest of the TR is awesome as well

Didn't know that. Seemed Dan also paid for insurance on his trip (http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/61187).

Great TR! I already forwarded the link to a few non-DDF friends trying to plan trips to Cancun!

Saw this and had to respond.  We were there for mid-winter break (1/19 to 1/26) and brought the pan, utenstils and oneg cheese.  We brought two packages and had one left over.  Chefs were really nice.  Executive/head chef went out of his way...

And I told him about lighting the flame... hilarious....

Glad you were able to make use of the cheese...

Umm that is hilarious and since I'm pretty sure you also trained the chef and left stuff at the Conrad Maldives that we used you're like the DDF food coordinator!  :P ;D

Never understood the public opinion of that place. It was so mediocre.
great TR Markus. re Luxus, i think the point is they are just inconsistent, as opposed to chabad Cancun, who consistently do a great job with great delivery service (and are more affordable usually and esp yeshiva week). Kosher Luxus' ceiling is a midrange brooklyn restaurant (think jerusalem steakhouse), and sometimes they run into issues. but the option to go out to a nice location with alcoholic bevs and decent food in a place like Cancun makes them a go to at least once if u are staying in the area/want a night out with the mrs.
