Are you serious about this offer? I would do it for you and take a percentage of your savings (I would get a price for you and you would go down to the dealer)
While I have no plans for buying a car anytime soon, whenever that time does come, I would absolutely be ready to employ someone to do this on my behalf and pay him a nice commission of the savings.

Not buying right now (possibly soon), and since I am deal savvy myself, I could probably do it on my own. However, I'm sure many out there would be interested in such a service.
Once you find a dealer who is willing to go very low to beat others offers, you could even start 'advertising' that you can get ahold of a brand new ****** for only $**,**** and match buyers to that dealer......
One day, when Ergel is making tons of money off all of this, I will kick myself for not doing it myself!!

I have posted about it before.

Sonata is out because of passenger seat.  Otherwise I liked it a lot.
Camry is out as they're releasing the '12 redesign later this year and the problem-plagued '07-'11 Camrys will plummet in value.  And I'm not keen about buying a car in the first year of a redesign either before people have had a chance to test it out.
Can you post the link to where you discuss negotiating strategy?

Bump...I've spent a while searching. If someone does know where it is, perhaps it could be added to a wiki in this thread?

The basic idea is to search inventory with several dealers. You will get either calls or emails with quotes. Take the lowest OTD(out the door offer) and use that as leverage when negotiating with the dealers. Explain polity, innocently and firmly  that these are your numbers and if they really want your business it isn't worth your time to schlep down to them unless they're well within you ball park..
You'll be surprised how much money you can knock off an asking price...
I just bought a $24k vehicle and had paid  $3k less than the asking price.
VERY IMPORTANT!! When negotiating show them that you're very serious and that if they can get down to your price they'll have the check in their hands within a day..
I even provided a CC over the phone so that they can put a $500 deposit on a van for me...(obviously confirm that the deposit is refundable should you not be happy with the car when you see it)
Good luck!!

Can you go back and forth between dealers? "A" offer $23,500, "B" offers $23,200, I go back to "A" and ask him to beat it? Any tips for doing this politely?

Of course. I just email and say I got this quote, can you beat it. Once you get a number no one can beat you probably have a good price

I have called a dealership with a price that I got from a different dealer. I asked if they could beat it and they said sure. Come down and we could talk.

I went down to the dealership, I sat down with a sales rep, told him what car I want. They had it in stock, he pulled it up. Showed me the car, and I said I want it.

We sat down to negotiate the price... I showed him the quote I had that they promised me they will beat it...

The Floor Sales Manager came over to us, and I showed him the price I wanted. He said he cant offer that low. He looked up on their computer, and saw that they noted under my number that they said they will beat my price. He then said the phone rep overstepped his line.

I said Good Bye, and left.

Not all dealers are getting the same price from the manufacturer. I would usually work with 2-3 big dealerships.

Figured I'll ask in this thread, too - when people quote the "out-the-door-price" they got their car at, are they including tax?

Lease or purchase?  If you are leasing where resale value is irrelevant try a Malibu. Hell of a car. Especially with the 2.0.
If you focus on being a boss, you will never be a leader. Leaders lead people to growth and improvement.
