The only US cars in that category I would ever think of buying would be Buick Lucerne or Lacrosse.

I take it you're talking loaded up with options, otherwise it seems like the base model can be had for much less...
That's for the 2.5SL, which is the cheapest version they sell with leather seats.  Cloth seats and babies/kids aren't a pretty site...better to get something that can be wiped off easily IMHO.

Just the opposite would make sense.
go for Maxima
Acura TL would be a better choice in that price range IMO, although I don't think Dan is looking in that league.

Elantra is compact car-too small I think.

I have nothing against the Accord in particular, just that I remember that I preferred the Camry when I test-drove the 2 back in 2009.  Do people like the Accord?

Camry over the Accord here.
Mazda 6 could be an interesting option, but its far from perfect.

If you have interest in something a bit bigger, i'm very happy with the '11 subaru outback. Amazing all around car, decent mpg, and great prices. If it's not your thing, you'll know right away

Accord = boring.
Camry = fun!
Toyota has always been a step ahead of Honda, plus they have Mr. Avalon and honda has nothing in that category.

How does the Subaru compare price & CR ratings?
It may be useful in Cleveland. I realize UH plows, but if you need some Kineret...

The accord goes much more upmarket than the camry. Therefore no need for a zzzz grandpa avalon.  Camry=boring. Styling drive.  I'd have to say the sonata has the most exciting sheetmetal. Although its hyndai which is kinda nerdy. But too bad to hear bout the seat flaw
