Is it better to cancel the Saphire preferred and then sign up fot the regular saphire (or other way around) and get signup bonus or just downgrade the preferred?
Better for what ?

Meaning overall is the signup bonus for regular saphire worth the amount my credit score would go down by canceling preferred?

If you cancel the card your credit score would go down because you're losing that credit line. But if you're signing up for a new card you'll have a new credit line.

My AF for SP also posted 10/1, and since I already have a freedom, if they don't waive the AF nor give me retention perks, I would most likely downgrade to another freedom (best option if AF waiver or perks not given?).  My question is: how long do I have to wait until I can apply for an SP again?  Is there a set time frame?  I have read before that this is churnable.

No set time frame. Though the sooner you do it, it may be harder to justify getting another one to recon.

Done with retention on this: options were to close, reg Sapph, or Freedom.  I tried for bonus promos, but no luck, so I went the Freedom route!  :D  That's two Freedoms now!  Questions: do I qualify for a bonus on this new freedom or not because it is just a conversion and not a new app situation?  My original freedom from 2006 still has the 10%+10 per swipe perk, so will my second freedom also have this perk?  SP in 30 days!

9/26/13 was my app date, so almost 13 months.  I've got to say though that he did not offer the freedom initially.  He was trying to push for regular sapph.  I did not want to seem like the freedom was what I actually wanted.  I fished for it by asking what other cards chase had that were AF free.  When he named it, I said "Ok, well, I guess I'll take the freedom card then."  haha

Chase Sapphire Visa

Hi All,

I've read through a few months of posts (regarding the Sapphire Preferred) and didn't see much about people who previously received the opening bonus over 24 months ago and don't currently have the Sapphire Preferred, then applied for the Sapphire Preferred again and received the bonus.

Is there anyone, recently, that received the bonus after the above circumstances (over 24 months since last bonus and either:  a)closed their old Sapphire preferred down before applying or b)downgraded to either the regular Sapphire or Freedom)?  I'm thinking about downgrading to the regular Sapphire, waiting a little bit, then applying for the Sapphire Preferred again.  I'm sure I've received the bonus over 24 months ago (but funny that, apparently, the Chase representatives can only go back in the history 12 months - No idea how people on the border of 24 months of their last bonus are supposed to comply with their rules when they can't even tell you the info you need to know to comply with the rules).

Thanks

With the Chase cards, if approved you will get bonus. (With the airline cards, you it is also possible, but you may need to put some more effort into it)

depends on how many points 7% comes out to be for you. Make some calculations.
CMIIW but the fee for SP isn't prorated.
