6 month pasport rule
« on: February 17, 2017, 10:48:04 AM »
I booked tickets to israel for purim on elal and just heard about the 6 month passport rule.
my passport is expiring at the end of March.
i live in the US but have a canadian passport and to renew it i would have to go into Canada.
I heard from a few people that elal wont make a big deal, but im still nervous... anyone had this situation before?

Not personally. But picked up a friend a few weeks ago and they had an expired passport and said leaving here wasn't a problem. Coming back in Israel they said something but she said she didn't realize bla bla bla... And back in the US they didn't say a thing. YMMV (and this was with a US passport)

I had the same thing 2 years ago. USA said nothing but when I arrived in Israel they questioned me for 3 minutes and I just said I'm leaving before it expires.
How could they not honor something until the actual date??

El Al doesn't enforce 6 months rule. Most US airlines do

I flew Swiss. They refused to let me on the plane at JFK.

Rebooked for the next day and had to get a rush passport.

IMHO Do not try it.

It looks like it may vary by airline also, so you may get a better answer if you include that info in your question

Flying to Israel tomorrow with United and just realized my US passport expires in 5 months, when called united they told me I'm okay and referred me to the page below, hopefully I'll be fine.
https://www.united.com/web/en-US/apps/vendors/default.aspx?i=TIMATIC

Here they also mention that to Israel varies by airline
